BEING GLORIA SWANSON, GLORIA GRAHAME, AND NATCH, GLORIA, NATCH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, starting these here notes when they should have been posted four minutes ago. Why late? Because I was finishing watching a very bad motion picture entitled Foe, an Amazon movie now streaming, having made a whopping $47,000 at the box-office. It’s pretentious twaddle – the trailer actually says “from visionary director Garth Davis” – is this is a visionary director, I’m Gloria Swanson or at the very least Gloria Grahame or even natch, Gloria, natch. It stars Saroise Ronan and Paul Mescal – why they would do this film is anyone’s guess, unless the equated having enough dialogue to service three films as some kind of plus. It just goes on and on with one of those irritating and relentless droning scores that took three composers to come up with its four notes. There is some nudity but to my eye it looks like they’ve digitized out all the detail – I mean ALL the detail. It was very poorly reviewed except for a few pretentious, arty critics. I can recommend it highly for fans of pretentious twaddle, nudity that has no detail whatsoever, fans of scores consisting of four notes that sound like fingernails on a chalk board, or movies by “visionary” directors. Prior to that, it was the usual kind of day. I got nine hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, ordered fried catfish with a 50% off coupon, ate it when it arrived (excellent) and then I began futzing and finessing, which took quite a while because I keep adding stuff as I still figure out the form – I’m not sure it’s quite right yet, but if I have to move stuff around, it’s pretty easy. Then I wrote about seven new pages. I took a break and did a few other things, had no telephonic calls whatsoever, wrote more pages (thirteen so far, and I’ll do one or two more once these here notes are posted), and then watched the movie.

We’ve decided that Monday will be the book Q&A Zoom thing and I hope lots of you will show up. Even if you haven’t finished Kritzer World, I’m happy to discuss the Kritzer books in general and any of my other books. So, perhaps some dear lurkers might find it of interest – the more, the merrier say I. I’ll post the link in Monday’s notes. I love doing this sort of thing, so do write down some questions so we can keep it moving and lively, with merriment and mirth and laughter and legs.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll futz and finesse, then I have to do a quick bank run, then pick up the small package from the mail place, after which I’ll get something to eat from Gelson’s or some jernt nearby. I’ll come home and eat whatever I get, then I’ll write new pages, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I may try to have a proper meal at a restaurant of some sort. I miss doing that and must try to do it more often. Take the air, have a little drive, and sit and enjoy a meal rather than always eating in front of the computer. Sunday will be more of the same, and then Monday morning I’ll send the first seventy or eight pages or however many are done to Muse Margaret and I’m hoping she likes them and finds that the form of them is working. Then next week is writing, praying for a few modern major miracles that need to come soon or there will be hell toupee, and a couple of meetings and meals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, futz and finesse, do a quick bank run, go to the mail place, get something to eat, bring it home and eat it, write new pages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player device? I’ll start – CD, the new Franz Schreker album. Streaming – the new episode of Reacher and whatever movie I can find. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, being Gloria Swanson, Gloria Grahame, or Natch, Gloria, Natch.
