THE MUSE APPROVES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the symphonies of an interesting Japanese composer named Takashi Yoshimatsu. It just showed up in my YouTube feed, his sixth symphony. So, I sampled it and liked what I heard and grabbed all six symphonies, his guitar concerto, piano concerto, and a few other things. Very tonal, rather like movie music, and I’m enjoying his music very much. In other news, Muse Margaret finished reading the book and, as I suspected, the only thing she had an issue with was the thing I knew she’d have an issue with and which I’d already bracketed to cut. So, that was easy. She had me remove one other tiny thing. But she loved the last fifty pages of the book, none more so than the penultimate chapter and very brief two-page final chapter. So, that made me very happy and now I can start my proofing of the book. After that, it can go to the other proofers. Doug is going to start working on the cover. Have to think about who might be good to blurb this one. It would be nice to have some different people blurb the non-fiction stuff. We shall see. I did put on Dr. Strangelove to watch – hadn’t seen it years and last night was no different, since I fell asleep five minutes in and other than waking up twice briefly, slept through entire thing. Oh, I did watch a Perry Mason episode from 1962, with Richard Erdman and Victor Buono as guests. Nice location shot of the Santa Monica Pier merry-go-round, the one that a decade later would appear in The Sting. Of course, she of the Evil Eye came so I was out of the house by eight-thirty. I went and had a nice breakfast at the Coral Café. Then I stopped by the mail place and picked up little of interest. Then I went to Gelson’s and got tortilla chips and salsa, so I’d have an evening snack. After that, I came home. I answered e-mails and, of course, it felt like a Saturday because that’s normally when she of the Evil Eye comes. It still feels like a Saturday. And yet, it’s a Thursday. Then Muse Margaret called and that was fun, and then I had some chips and salsa and that was a nice early evening snack. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll have a Zoom thing with David Wechter in the afternoon. By the way, he was contacted by a guy who’s doing a big documentary about The Faculty for a new special edition 4K/Blu-ray release of the film from Shout Factory. So, we’ll do that at some point via Zoom. I’ll have to figure out what I want to eat, and then at some point I have to catch up on a bunch of stuff, and after that I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, we’ll be back to writing our screenplay, then I’m attending an opening night with Marshall Harvey – we’ll dine before, just trying to decide where. There’s a little backstage party after, so I’m sure we’ll hang there for a bit. As to the weekend, I’ll probably be proofing the new book and I do that very slowly and methodically.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, have a Zoom thing, eat, catch up on stuff, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you felt like writing a non-fiction book, what would it be about? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that Muse Margaret loved the new book and now I begin proofing.
