CONTEMPLATING MY NAVEL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Jerry Goldsmith’s brilliant score to A Patch of Blue whilst wondering where the HELL the day and evening went as well as contemplating my navel. I don’t give enough attention to my navel, frankly. I was up at ten-thirty after eight hours of sleep, I answered too many e-mails, I got news of a modern major miracle, I shaved and showered, and then did the interview for The Faculty. It was a lot of fun. He asked very specific questions about what the aliens looked like in our original script, and I honestly couldn’t remember until I remembered a neat scene where two of them shed their skins to have, um, the S word. He asked good questions and I have fun answering as best I could. I’m sure David and I told similar stories so he can pick and choose which work best. I think he said the Blu-ray will be out at the end of the year, but I may have misheard that. I’m glad the film is finally getting a special edition. Dimension/Miramax has never treated it with the respect it deserves. It made them some nice money and people who saw it when it came out remember it fondly. So, good on Shout Factory for going the extra mile. Of course, David and I wish they’d reboot it or do a streaming series. Wouldn’t that be a lovely turn of events? After the interview, I went and got Taco Bell for food, came home, and ate it all up. Then I went back to reading through the book and that’s basically what I did for the rest of the day and evening, getting to about page 210. I should be able to finish up today and then get it to the other two proofers, the idea being to get it as good as we can get it for the designers and then I’ll do one final go-through when I get the book from them. I still have to figure out where the photo section will go, but I suspect somewhere around page 150 or thereabouts. I also have to label all the photos so Doug knows what they are. I gave him a LOT to choose from and I’ll tell him which are absolutely essential to use. I took a few breaks, ordered three donuts for a treat, but from a place I didn’t know – and boy were they awful. One bite of each and in the trash they went. What a waste. There really is no point in ever getting a donut anywhere but K’s. It’s only three minutes away and I honestly don’t know what I was thinking about. I also watched about ten videos about the new iMac 24” M3 desktop computer, which is the only option for me, I think, as they’re saying there will ever be a 27” again. What a shame that is. I just cannot see getting the Mac Mini and an Apple monitor – that would cost almost two grand more. I’m just very concerned that my 2015 machine will just quit on me and I cannot have that. I also think you now can’t load the latest operating system on it. But I can’t think about getting a new one right now, despite my nervousness. I have no idea how much of my computer backs up to the cloud, either. I know the really important stuff does, but I cannot afford to lose anything. I do have this 5TB drive here and I need to find an adaptor for the USB plug and then I need someone who’s computer savvy come here and back up everything on the computer to that drive so that I’m totally safe. It’s all too scary, frankly, and frankly it’s all too scary.

Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty, the helper is coming by to get two Kritzer World books to ship, and then I’ll finish the reading/proofing of the book and get that copy to the two proofers. I also finally got word that one of the blurbers I really wanted said he’d be happy to do it, so I sent him a PDF. I wanted a known director to blurb it and he certainly is that. Now I need to think of a theater person to blurb – can be a director or even a performer. If anyone has any ideas, bring ‘em on. I’ll eat something fun, I’ll get back to writing, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. I need to find two homegrown DVDs so I can make absolutely sure that I’ve written about a couple of things accurately.

Tomorrow is more of the same, as is the rest of the week, and then the weekend should be light.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten-thirty, have a helper visit, finish reading/proofing the new book, try to find the DVDs I need to find, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall continue to contemplate my navel.
