DISHING THE DISH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early. I almost forgot that she’s coming on Tuesdays now. So, let’s not dip our toe in the water, notes-wise, let’s dive in and get the job done. I got ten hours of sleep again and that was very nice. Once up, I went to the mail place and picked up a small package and two irritating envelopes that I immediately deposited into the trash. I came home and ordered from the Cheesecake Factory. About six months ago, they removed my favorite food item from the menu – spicy chicken with cashews and scallions over white rice. They just brought it back but with extra items like snow peas and gross tasting mushrooms and some red stuff and those ingredients basically kill the dish. I suppose I could ask for it without those items, but what a disappointment it was. So disappointing, in fact, that later I had to have some ice cream to get rid of the taste. I listened to the two-CD set of Le Passe Muraille, the original French cast album with musique de Michel Legrand. It has one great theme/song – a classic Legrand melody, and the rest of the songs have a sameness to them that grows wearisome by the end. There are a couple of other tunes that a pretty, though, and I enjoyed it. Then I listened to its Broadway cast album, Amour, and that’s nice, too, and the cast is very good and of course the lyrics are in English. The show only ran seventeen performances because it didn’t really belong on Broadway. It’s rarely performed. Of course, we had the ubiquitous computer freeze, so that was irritating. I got it back on and running again. As to watching, I didn’t really watch anything other than some irritating YouTube videos and some amusing dog videos. I did shave for the first time in six days, so I look almost human again. I did a little organizing, had some text volleys and some private message volleys on Facebook and that was about it. Not very exciting, but it was, after all, a national holiday known as Presidents Day.

Today, I’ll be up by eight and out the door whenever she of the Evil Eye arrives. I’ll go have a nice breakfast somewhere not too far from here, and then I’ll do some grocery shopping for a couple of needed items, after which I’ll come back home and write, do whatever needs doing, have a snack around six o’clock, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week will be more of the same. Lots of writing, I know I have a meeting/meal on Friday and there’ll probably be one or two more, and I’m sure I’ll watch some movies and listen to some music and hope for some modern major miracles. And as Kathryn Kuhlman always said: “I believe in miraclesssssss.”

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a nice breakfast, do some grocery shopping write, do whatever needs doing, have a snack, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite songs and scores of Michel Legrand? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishing that restaurants wouldn’t “improve” on a perfect dish.
