THE LOVELY REACTION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Robert Ward’s first symphony. I must admit I don’t know it like I know his second and third, which I released on CD. But it’s beautiful symphony. Prior to listening, I watched a motion picture entitled Hot Rod Gang from 1958, starring John Ashley. A typical American International picture of that period, it played second feature to High School Hellcats, which I also watched a bit of. Hot Rod Gang does have a few outdoor shots mostly done on Santa Monica Boulevard. We get a nice glimpse of the Monica Theater, which was located about four blocks east of Fairfax. In 1960, it was one of the first theaters to show “adult” movies like The Immoral Mr. Teas. In the 1970s it was a Pussycat Theater, and then became a gay porno theater, located next to a corner building called The Institute of Oral Love. Needless to say, the latter has vanished, and the former is for rent. We also get very brief glimpses of the Vista Theater and the marquee of the Los Feliz Theater. High School Hellcats doesn’t have location shots and therefore it is of no interest to me. Prior to that, I finished entering the fixes of proofer one and we had a nice telephonic conversation about a few things in the book. I called Muse Margaret to run stuff by her, but her cold or flu is worse, and she was too hoarse to talk, so I suspect that will happen over the weekend, although I’m hoping maybe sooner. Earlier in the day, she of the Evil Eye came and I went and finally got the smog check done. What a racket that is. It took only a few minutes. After that, I happened to drive by a jernt I used to love called Vivian’s Café. I decided to breakfast there. I had a chili cheese omelet – very good – and home fries – also very good. There were only two tables occupied – mine and then two guys at another table who spent the entire time I was there gabbing loudly about all their “deals” – yep. Show biz talk. I didn’t believe a word either of them were saying. Anyway, I think I’ll make that my new breakfast spot when she of the Evil Eye does her thing. After that, I went to the mail place and picked up four boxes filled with pantry items from Amazon, so I’m set with pasta, rice, soup, crackers, and a few other items. Then I went across the street to Gelson’s and got some Diet Coke – they’re still having their sale on it. I also got some low-fat milk for Wacky Noodles and some heavy cream for pink sauce.

Then I came home, went online and paid my registration renewal, which was a lot, which was surprising given the car is nine years old. Hopefully, the new tags will arrive soon. After that, I began entering the fixes and I finished that in the late afternoon. I ordered a tostada from the nearby Mexican jernt I like – never had it before and I must say it was very good – I got it with chicken rather than beef. The rest you know and here we are.

Oh, and I must say and will say that the reaction to the new book cover was pretty amazing – well over 400 likes on Facebook, with tons of nice comments.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, then I’ll try to do a little writing, I’ll eat, then I do an interview on Zoom about The Faculty, for the new special edition Blu-ray that’s coming soon. Then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, plus I should have proofer two’s fixes and I’ll go through those, I’ll run stuff by Muse Margaret as soon as she’s able, I’m seeing some cabaret thing at one in the afternoon on Saturday plus having a meal with Kay Cole.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do a little writing, eat, do an interview, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had such a lovely reaction to the new book cover.
