Well, dear readers, I am completely and utterly discombobulated and dazed and confused, not necessarily in that order. You see, she of the Evil Eye came yesterday – she no longer comes on Saturdays, but since she’s come on Saturdays for over twenty years, it’s very confusing and I keep thinking it’s Saturday when it’s Tuesday. Add to that only four hours of sleepless sleep and you get discombobulated. The entire day and evening is a haze of a daze and a daze of a haze. I was up at eight and out the door by eight-thirty. I decided on Art’s Deli for bacon and eggs. After that, I walked over to the nearby Von’s and got a thing of four pinwheel sandwiches for a snack later. Then I went to the mail place and mailed a letter. After that, I came home just as she of the Evil Eye was leaving. I immediately began the final proofing of the book – found a few minor things, but when they’d done the global fixes the other day it screwed up the chapters, which should all start on the right – three now start on the left, so they’ll now need to fix those and make sure when they do to check every chapter start to make sure it’s an odd numbered page. I did about forty pages, took a little break, did forty more, had my pinwheels, watched the rest of a documentary called Scandalous about the National Enquirer, and then I couldn’t keep my eyeballs open, so I plopped myself down on the bed and instantly fell asleep for two hours. Once up, I had no idea what day it was, I was completely incoherent, but finally was able to proof twenty-five more pages. And now, I’m up and alert and NOT ready for bed, so I’ll probably proof another twenty or thirty pages if my eyeballs can take it. Wasn’t that exciting? Book orders are coming in slowly but surely, as are more Follies orders.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll do whatever needs doing, then I’ll continue proofing. I’ve already ordered food and I’m VERY excited about it – Uber Eats has another 50% off thing so I ordered from Langer’s, the best deli in the universe – my favorite, the number 1 – pastrami, coleslaw, Russian dressing, with an extra side of Russian dressing, as well as a thing of chicken salad for later in the evening. I can taste it now. Hopefully, it will travel well, as it’s a VERY long distance from there to here. Should arrive between twelve-thirty and one. The rest of the day will be proofing and more proofing and I’m hoping to finish by the end of the evening. Dust jacket is now done, so as soon as we get the designed book fixes in and they implement them and I approve them, then everything goes right to the publisher for publishing. I’m sure I’ll be taking breaks throughout the day and evening, as per usual.
Tomorrow, I’ll be writing, and then meeting the Pearls for dinner. Friday, I have no idea what’s happening other than once again I need a modern major miracle or three because there are so many balls we’re trying to juggle over here and as we all know, it’s never easy to juggle balls. Not sure what’s happening on the weekend.
