THE WEIRDLY WEIRD DAY OF WEIRDNESS WITH A HAPPY ENDING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, March is flying by, like a gazelle looking for nirvana. Actually, who isn’t looking for nirvana? Wouldn’t we all like a little nirvana? In any case, yesterday was another weirdly weird day of weirdness. I got seven hours of not enough sleep, was up at eleven, answered e-mails, food arrived, my chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK, I ate it all up and it was excellent, I listened to music, I watched a few Peter Cook and Dudley Moore videos, I tried to write but my eyeballs are just hindering me right now, but I will force myself to get to it tomorrow come hell or high or even low water. At five o’clock, I just got in bed, was out like a light moments thereafter, up two hours later for a minute, then slept another two hours – a four hour nap. As a wee bairn, I never took naps. I hated the thought of sleeping through any part of the day. And even though I occasionally take them now I still hate them. But when you need sleep, you need sleep. So, I got back up at nine, a bit woozy, and listened to more music. I loaded ten more CDs, so thirty-eight more to go. I heard a violin concerto I didn’t know, by Wieniawski, not a favorite but I didn’t hate it and again the conducting and playing and sound were superb. Then it was a complete Le Martyre de Saint-Sebastian by Debussy – narration by Vera Zorina. Lush, beautiful music, amazing sound, and very enjoyable. Then it was Prokofiev’s fourth symphony, and Ormandy just has a wonderful way with Prokofiev and, of course, that Columbia stereo sound cannot be beat. Then it was Brahms second piano concerto, a work filled with wonderful tunes and it’s a great disc and performance. And now playing is Tchaikovsky’s sixth symphony, which sounds amazing and again Ormandy just makes it all sound so beautiful with his Philadelphia Orchestra. I love this symphony, plus it’s fun to hear the way Charlie Chaplin “borrowed” its big tune for The Kid. Anyway, this box is a tonic, a musical tonic to soothe the savage breast and believe me, my breast is quite savage right now, both of them. I had no further food after the salad, so that was a good thing. Today’s food is already ordered and should be arriving at one. Oh, best of all was a modern major miracle did happen, thank goodness. I think that about covers everything in the weirdly weird day of weirdness with a happy ending.

Today will hopefully not be a weirdly weird day filled with weirdness – too many of those recently. I’ll be up by eleven, do whatever needs doing, food arrives at one and I shall eat it and hope it’s good – new jernt for me, so we shall see what we shall see when we see it. After that, I will damn well buckle down, Winsocki and write at least five pages and get back in the swing of things because, after all, it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing. After that, more listening, and I’m sure I’ll relax and watch as well. And, of course, a very happy birthday to the one and only genuine original Darling Daughter.

Tomorrow will be a ME day, although I’ll write a page or two for sure, just to keep in the swing of things, so I can be the King of Swing, like my close personal friend that I never met, Benny Goodman. It’s good to be the King of something. Next week, I hope to approve galley and covers, after which the book will go to the printer for my test copies – once they arrive, then I place my order, so hopefully we’ll have books in early April, a month ahead of the projected ship date. I also will be writing all week, I’ll make an appointment to see the eyeball person that dear reader Jeanne recommended to me, and hopefully what’s going on can be easily fixed.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do whatever needs doing, eat food from a jernt I’ve never been to, I’ll write some pages, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: For our carnivores, what is your favorite way to prepare steak or in restaurants how do you like your steaks, what restaurants were/are your favorite for steaks, and do you use condiments on your steak? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy this weirdly weird day of weirdness is done.
