THE GLASSES, THE MODERN MAJOR MIRACLE, AND THE HOPEFUL RETURN OF THE KRITZERLAND SHOWS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much tardy fish, listening to William Walton’s Façade, poems by Edith Sitwell, via Mr. Ormandy and speaker Vera Zorina. A delightful piece and even more delightful recording. Here are the important tidbits – or bits of tid as I like to call them – from yesterday. The first thing that happened was I got up after a sleepless night – maybe five hours of sleep. Up at ten, I answered some e-mails, of course, and then at eleven-thirty I left for the eyeball place. I parked at Gelson’s and walked over and got there right on time at noon. We talked for a while – I told her what was and wasn’t working with the new glasses. Then she had me sit down and look at the buildings across the way. She held up a few different lenses in front of the glasses lenses and we got those buildings perfectly sharp with no double image. Then she placed a magazine on a chair about the same distance as my TV from my couch – about six feet away. She did the same test and then got that perfectly in focus and single. She then had me look at the buildings across the way, but those were now slightly out of focus. So, she felt it important that the most important thing was distance for driving. She got the magazine as close as she could without causing a problem with the distance vision. And marked an adjustment on the glasses’ lenses so that I wouldn’t have to tilt my head down to get the best single vision. So, I’ll have the adjusted glasses next week, probably on Monday. If those do the trick, then I’ll have her do my sunglasses. We’re not going to do anything about the close stuff because my reading glasses work fine for that. Then I bought a cube steak, very small, maybe four ounces, four egg rolls and some sweet and sour sauce. I went to the mail place and picked up a small package, then came home. I ate the egg rolls, which were good and had a small slice of the Darling Daughter’s Cherry Loaf and that was, as always, very good. I did a few things on the computer, then had a lengthy conversation with Catalina Bar and Grill, a nice club in the heart of Hollywood. There’ll be another conversation tomorrow and that may be the new home for Kritzerland, if we can make all the details work. If so, our first show would be the third week of May. We’d also do a June show, take July off, then do August, September, and December. I’m hoping it’ll all work out.

Then I got news of a modern major miracle, so that was just in the nick of time. I had more telephonic conversations with various and sundried folks, watched some YouTube videos, and here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll have an information-gathering telephonic call, I’ll see if anything’s at the mail place, I’ll figure out food and eat whatever that may be, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of that, some decisions must be made carefully, and then Friday night I’m being taken to dinner by some Partridge Family fans, so that should be fun. Not sure what’s happening on the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, have an information-gathering telephonic call, see if anything’s at the mail place, eat, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Chinese and Japanese dishes and where have you had the best Chinese and Japanese meals? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping the new glasses will work, grateful for a modern major miracle, and happy about the potential return of Kritzerland cabaret shows.
