THE LOVELIER THAN LOVELY DINNER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to another lovely Philippe Rombi score to a French film from France entitled L’Outsider (The Outsider), which I’ve now also found on Amazon Prime for today’s viewing adventure, along with Boite Noire, the other film sporting a Rombi score. If the Kritzer books were ever turned into movies or GEE, my firm recommendation would be Mr. Rombi. I do believe I have every score of his that’s been released on CD. Not sure if their all on the Tube of You, but many are and can be grabbed from there – just beware that some of the people who upload them do so in the wrong order – you can do a Discogs search from the correct track listing, which is what I had to do for all three scores I grabbed in the last couple of days. Earlier this evening, I moseyed on over to Barone’s to sup with six Partridge Family/David Cassidy fans who are in town for David being inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame on Sunday. We were there for two-and-a-half hours and I found it most delightful. Stories were told, I learned a bit about each person at the dinner, and after we dined it turned out they’d all bought Directed by on Amazon, so I signed those copies and a few other items they’d brought. I’m always grateful when anyone remembers my acting work and as you all know, The Partridge Family was a very important show for me, all five episodes – most importantly because of David and Susan Dey and Shirley Jones. There’s a reason why this show has endured and is still popular – it was fun, it was funny, and you loved the characters. I was given a wonderful gift – a poster with the covers of all twenty-five of my books. Here’s me with the poster.

Isn’t that fun? A little nutty that that’s almost a quarter of a century of writing books. Who knew? I was asked what my favorite was, and while I’ll always think the Kritzer books quartet is the answer, I think the best book I’ve written is the most different, and that’s GEE. Anyway, I love the poster. We took lots and lots of photos and heaven knows what the other diners thought. I had my usual salad and carbonara and one tiny piece of the pepperoni pizza the table got. The carbonara sauce was a bit thin – it’s happened a couple of times before – more soupy than thick – it was still excellent, however, and probably a few less calories with less heavy cream. Less Heavy Cream – that’s the title of my next novel. Anyway, the ladies were all delightful – Barb, Barbara, Suzanne, Joann, Robyn, and Karen – and I had a lovelier than lovely time. I recommended that they stop at Langer’s on the way to Temecula to get pastrami sandwiches to go.

Prior to that, I’d gotten nine hours of sleep, answered a LOT of e-mails, had some telephonic calls, did a bit of writing, watched some irritating YouTube videos, shaved and showered, and then it was time to sup, which you know all about.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll go to the mail place to retrieve whatever’s there, I’ll figure out what I want to do for food then I’ll eat whatever it is I’ve figured out, then I’ll watch the two French movies from France, but basically today and tomorrow are ME days and I don’t care who knows it.

Tomorrow is tomorrow, and then this coming week will be writing, planning the May Kritzerland show, hopefully getting the hardcover test book so I can order books, and doing whatever else needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, go to the mail place and retrieve what’s retrievable, figure out food and eat it, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion. What are the best pasta dishes you’ve ever had, and which do you like making? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had such a lovely dinner with such a lovely group of folks.
