TOUR JETES AND PAS DE BOUREES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, having returned to the last five albums in the Eugene Ormandy big boy stereo box. Now playing, Chopin’s delightful Les Sylphides ballet, filled with very recognizable tunes. So much so, that I immediately put on my colored tights and pantaloons and have been twirling about doing tour jetes and pas de bourees like a gazelle on steroids. I was and am a sight to see. I should have made a TikTok or YouTube video so that I could have gone viral and gotten two million views and been offered my own TV series. But I feel some things should not be shared and you can thank your lucky stars that that is one of them. Earlier, I watched the portion of Mon Crime that I’d slept through – the film got very good reviews, but when you advertise something as a farce you should deliver something resembling a farce rather than an occasionally amusing and charming comedy. It’s certainly enjoyable, and as I already said it is well cast and very handsome to look at and is well directed. I’d missed almost the entire performance of Isabelle Huppert and she’s a lot of fun. And, of course, the Philippe Rombi score is delightful. I also watched a couple of longish YouTube videos done by a guy whose “thing” is showing what shows had one-season or less runs – he began with the 1970s, I think, and I’ve seen the first two before, but last night I watched the 1975-1976 season – so many awful ideas for shows that failed for very obvious reasons. And I watched the 1976-1977 season – he does do summer replacement shows, so imagine my surprise when he showed a bit of the Dihann Carroll Show, a CBS summer replacement for The Carol Burnett Show that only filmed four episodes that aired in mid-August to early September. But not a mention of the summer replacement show that preceded Ms. Carroll’s show on CBS as the replacement for The Carol Burnett Show – so, I left a comment scolding him for leaving out Dinah and Her New Best Friends – I gave him a demerit. I did do several episodes of failed shows mentioned in his videos, like The Super, Lucas Tanner, and Doctors Hospital. Anyway, it’s fun to see what they were coming up with. Oh, and one of the 1975 shows was Fay starring Lee Grant along with Muse Margaret. I also saved some things to watch when I’m more in the mood to watch more movies.

Earlier, I got eight hours of sleep, answered e-mails, had Jack in the Box for food – I just wanted something down and dirty and fast – I got a breakfast Jack, two tacos, and their new smash burger. I found the latter pretty rank and I think I’m quite over this smash burger craze – just give me a good, old-fashioned burger, baby, and I’m happy. The breakfast Jack and tacos were fine. Later, I had a pudding cup and I don’t care who knows it. That was about it. And now, we’re on to Delibes’ Sylvia ballet. Sparkling, just like a Diet Coke.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, but mostly I’ll be waiting for a telephonic call to tell me whether the adjusted glasses will be ready for me to pick up – if so, I’ll pick them up. Food will depend wholly on that. I may try In ‘N’ Out just to have a good burger. We shall see. I’ll do some writing, I’ll do some planning for the first of our Kritzerland shows at our new venue – thus far, we have Kerry O’Malley, Robert Yacko, Adrienne Stiefel, and Jason Graae. We have an ask out for another lady, and then I’m going to try and find us a name guest star. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is writing, meetings and meals, getting singers their material, visiting our new venue, and doing whatever else needs doing. And certainly, I’m hoping the damn hardcover arrives so I can place the book order. It’s outrageous that it’s taking this long, frankly. Same thing happened with Kritzer World. Time to kick some butt, I think.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, wait for a call to see if the glasses are ready, pick them up if they are, eat something from somewhere, plan for the Kritzerland show, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What ballet music do you love most? And which versions are your favorites. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be doing tour jetes and pas de bourees in my colored tights and pantaloons.
