Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to no music, but having watched the first half of a charming Eyetalian live broadcast of Hansel and Gretel from 1957. It’s so old-fashioned and of its time, but the band sounds great, the singers are fine and it’s just enjoyable to watch how charming the opera truly is. But, as the say in Sweet Charity – let me get right to the point: Please send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for the potential modern major miracle, which could happen as soon as this morning when I wake up. I’m wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’, so send ‘em strong and loud and clear. I’m hoping I do sleep well – two nights in a row I simply could not fall asleep and did not do so until after six the first night and after seven last night. I only got just under four hours of sleep, awakened by a telephonic call from the glasses place. So, I got up, got ready, and moseyed on over to Encino. I tried them on, and I think they’re a bit better than the last attempt, but I need to spend time in them and let my eyeballs get used to them. The right-side prism lens is now so thick that it almost doesn’t fit properly in the frames. That wasn’t the case with the first attempt. So, I’ll live with them for a week, and we’ll go from there. The TV viewing does seem better. Distance is still slightly funky depending on the angle of my head and how wide I keep my right eye open. After that, I walked back to Gelson’s, where I’d parked. I got some gefilte fish, some chopped liver, some matzos, a bit of lobster salad, and three egg rolls from their hot bar. I drove right home using the new glasses and they were certainly helpful. Once home, I ate the three egg rolls, which were very good. I did a few things on the computer and then sat on my couch like so much tired fish and promptly fell asleep for two hours, maybe even a bit more. Then I had half the chopped liver with two matzos. A bit later, I had the bit of lobster salad, which wasn’t that good. Studio City Gelson’s does that the best. For a sweet, a couple of cookies. Then it was back to the couch for some viewing and sleep, and finally I watched the Hansel and Gretel thing. Then I had a nice telephonic conversation and here we are.
Today, I am praying for the hopeful modern major miracle and praying hard, so do send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll check with the mail place and see what’s what, I may have to put some gas in the motor car – the last tank has lasted six count them six weeks. Other than that, I’ll do some work on the Kritzerland show, send our musical director the charts I’ve gathered – we’re still lacking one singer and one guest star – and then I’ll eat something fun, after which I can watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same and some meetings and meals and going and doing and doing and going. Oh, and dear reader George’s lovelier than lovely review of Directed by is up at Amazon. Here it is.

I’ve been involved with my local community theater for more than thirty years. I’ve both acted and worked on the tech side, but I’ve never really wanted to direct anything. After reading Bruce Kimmel’s book “Directed By,” I still don’t want to direct, but I have a much greater respect for what directors do. I (mostly) thought that it was (mostly) telling the actors where to stand, but it really is much, MUCH more than that. Mr. Kimmel discusses his philosophies, his preferred activities of the first rehearsal, and as mentioned by other reviewers, JEF. Mr. Kimmel has always had an engaging writing style, like he’s just having a conversation with you, and I really enjoy that. If you’re interested in directing in general, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this book. And if you you’ve enjoyed any of his previous books, fiction or non-fiction, you’ll definitely want to add this to your list of must-reads. Highly recommended!
I’d buy that book!
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, pray hard for a modern major miracle, do whatever needs doing, check with the mail place, maybe put gas in the motor car, work on the Kritzerland show, eat something fun, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite cold side dishes – like coleslaw or potato salad or macaroni salad – that kind of thing. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’.
