Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to a recent album featuring the songs of The Young Girls of Rochefort with band and singers – I don’t even remember getting this, but it’s quite good and the music is such a pick-me-up that I’m bopping away whilst writing these here notes. But before we continue, may I just wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there in the dark. Even though I myself am not a mother, there are some who would say that I am indeed a mother. And I’m jiggy with that. Otherwise, I did manage to watch a short motion picture that I’d never seen, entitled The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry, starring George Sanders, Ella Raines, and Geraldine Fitzgerald, directed by Robert Siodmak, from a play called Uncle Harry. It’s not great, but it IS short. I’m a fan of the director and it’s very well directed, and I also always enjoy George Sanders. Ella Raines has always been a favorite, and seeing Geraldine Fitzgerald was a real treat. I was lucky enough to work with her when we filmed the play I’d done at the Mark Taper Forum for PBS – Forget-Me-Not Lane by Peter Nichols. I bonded with all the new people (they only took three of us from LA), but most of all with Joseph Mahar and especially Geraldine. We got along famously, and she was so much fun and we were constantly laughing. And what an actress she was. I really adored her. I also watched the first two episodes of a documentary about the history of Las Vegas, from its beginnings up to now. It’s not great, but there are some fun interviews with people like Wayne Newton (who looks embalmed) and Rich Little (who looks embalmed), as well as some great historical footage, and the history part is fascinating as Vegas evolves each decade into something else. I’m looking forward to the final two episodes. I also dozed off for a couple of hours. Earlier, I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, then attempted to go to the local library sale only to find no parking for blocks, so I skipped that and went to Gelson’s. I got a half-rack of ribs – the smallest, tiniest half-rack you’ve ever seen. I also got a bit of cornbread stuffing, some shrimp cocktail shrimp, and a baked potato for later. I came home and ate the ribs, stuffing, and shrimp – all good, although there couldn’t have been more than two ounces of meat on the teeny-tiny ribs. Then I finished the show order and wrote more commentary. We did a Bacharach show back in the day, but unfortunately, I overwrote the commentary because I forgot to do a save as back then – very frustrating, as I could have cut and pasted a lot from it. So, the entire commentary is from scratch.
Later, I made the baked potato and had that with butter and scallions – very good – but I’m not digesting it well, even now. Next time, no scallions. Then I watched the movie and documentary episodes and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll continue writing the commentary until I finish it (I’m halfway through), I’ll figure out what food suits my fancy and then I and my fancy will acquire said food and eat said food. I can tell you it will NOT be pasta, emphatically so. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, I’ll be talking to an insurance expert as long as he can get my Medicare card number, which I won’t have until they send it to me. Then I have a lot of other stuff to deal with and I haven’t heard a peep as to where the books are – my gal has been out and hopefully she’s back tomorrow and can go kick some butt. It’s fairly outrageous that it’s taking this long and I really want to get them shipped out. The rest of the week is preparing for the Kritzerland rehearsals and show.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven at the latest, continue writing commentary, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping all us mothers have a very happy Mother’s Day.
