Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to a David Diamond piano concerto that is very appealing. I will admit to being a fan of Mr. Diamond’s music, some of which we issued back in the Bay Cities era. His music is very accessible and very American in sound. But then again, I’m pretty much a sucker for many American composers of the early to mid-twentieth century. This concerto was premiered in 1966 and shockingly it’s never had a proper recording – just the live performance. Happily, all his symphonies got recordings in stereophonic sound and they’re all worth hearing. Anyway, this piano concerto is great. Prior to that, I did do some viewing, just not a motion picture. I ended up watching four episodes of the TV program Peter Gunn. For its time, it was pretty unique – the style of it, the suave performance of Craig Stevens, the Lola Albright character, and there were lots of great actors involved in the episodes. Blake Edwards created it, but the thing that made it stand out and made it unlike any other show was, of course, Henry Mancini’s amazing theme and the music from the show. None of the episodes I watched (all from season two) were that great, but they were fun. The two best ones were both directed by Boris Sagal. The show’s photography was by Phil Lathrop, who was a movie guy and that’s why the show has such a good look, even in these substandard prints they show. But it’s free on Prime. Other than that, it was a bit of a frustrating day in terms of the books not arriving. I thought they had arrived, but only one tracking number arrived and that was a single copy of Kritzer World to replace a copy of a different book they accidentally sent in my order of that book. So, according to UPS, the other boxes are now slated to arrive this morning and I hope that’s what happens. The helper is planning to come over at one, so if the books arrive by eleven and I get them close to that time, then I’ll have time to sign them in advance of her arrival. If they’re not there by eleven, then she’ll have to come tomorrow. Let’s just hope they arrive as scheduled as I really want to get them shipped. I did get nine-and-a-half-hours of sleep, so that was very nice. Once up, I saw that the books weren’t arriving until this morning, so that put a damper on things, but I didn’t let it irritate me too much. I went back to Macy’s and got two more pairs of pants while their huge sale is going on – amazing prices and boy did I need new pants, especially a pair of jeans.
After that, I came right back home and made the two hot dogs I had left (had to, otherwise they’d go bad and so would the two buns that were left). I had them with red cabbage and some shredded cheese (light on the latter) and they were quite tasty and only cost me 660 calories. Later in the day, I did an Instacart order (they’re in the last few days of free delivery and no minimum order), so I ordered a twelve-pack of Diet Coke, which is back on sale at Gelson’s, two artichokes, and a can of tuna. Well, my shopper substituted mini-Diet Coke cans as a six-pack and substituted organic artichokes for the regular ones I ordered. The fact is the organic ones aren’t as good. However, Gelson’s certainly had a huge number of twelve-packs available (it even said that when you order via Instacart) and the same with the regular artichokes. So, that was annoying and completely unnecessary and just meant that the shopper was lazy and wanted to get out of there quickly. I’d also paid three bucks for fast delivery, and she missed the end time for delivery by fifteen minutes. I called Instacart and told them what happened, and they were very good about it and refunded me the cost of the Diet Coke and artichokes and the three bucks and threw in a five-dollar credit. So, now I have a nice credit to use for my next order. I had the artichoke with a small amount of butter – not as good as the non-organic ones but okay. And then I had some melon chunks and a few chunks of pineapple. That was the complete food intake for the day and evening and I was finished with food by six o’clock. Then I had a telephonic conversation and then I watched the Peter Gunn episodes. And here we are.
Today, I’ll be up by ten and hopefully the boxes will arrive (scheduled between nine and eleven). If they do, I’ll go get them, bring them right home, and then sign them. If all that goes according to Hoyle, then the helper will come get them at one. After that, I’ll figure out food – thinking about a Chinese chicken salad with Stanley’s very light dressing. Or I could get a cube steak and have that with sauteed onions, but I’d need some sort of vegetable with it. But the salad sounds better to me as of right now. Then I need to do a few things on the computer, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, which begins at one-thirty and we should be through by four at the absolute latest. Saturday will be ME day, Sunday is our second rehearsal, Monday I relax, Tuesday is our stumble-through, and then Wednesday is sound check and show.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten, hopefully the boxes will arrive when they’re supposed to, I’ll pick them up, sign them, and the helper will come get them and ship them, I’ll eat without going over the 1200 calories, do a few things on the computer, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Which TV shows of old had your favorite music and theme songs? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have pants I can actually wear.
