Well, dear readers, we had us a pretty damn good stumble-through, with only a few fumfers. The cast was amazing and the stumble-through day is so much fun, as it’s just us doing it for us. And that Bacharach music is just so brilliant, although not easy to sing with his crazy time signature changes. Many highlights in the show, and the two world premiere songs are lots of fun. As I write these here notes, I’m continuing my Benjamin Frankel symphony journey – currently playing is symphony four. Very interesting. Other than that, after rehearsal I had to catch up on e-mails, I made a post on Facebook about the stumble-through, then ordered food from Fat Sal’s – an Eyetalian submarine sandwich. It arrived about twenty minutes later. I was famished, so it disappeared quickly into my stomach. It was very good and lots fresher-tasting than Subway. After that, I read through the commentary, smoothed out a few things, then printed that out. I then got a call from the club saying reservations were a bit light. I just don’t get it. I know of two groups alone that total sixteen and lots of other people have told me they’re coming. Maybe they like to wait until the day of the show, but I just find that weird. But this club is also bigger than any we’ve played except for the Write-Off Room, which we filled with over 160 people, but that was a special birthday show for Richard Sherman. At Vitello’s, we always had between sixty to ninety people and that was great for that room. But we really do have to get close to a hundred in this room or they won’t be having us back. He suggested we just comp in some folks – all the club cares about is food and drink orders and with a hundred they’re fine. So, we put the word out and I spent the rest of the evening e-mailing and posting about the comps. So far we’ve added close to twenty to the total, and I suspect that tomorrow the paid tickets will go up in number. We were at fifty-five, and again, that seems impossible to me and I think one order for seven they probably hadn’t gotten yet from the ticketing company. So, I know we’ll have at least seventy-five and that’s at least closer, but I’m really hoping that today we can up that to ninety, where we’ll be fine and won’t be in danger of them not wanting us back. I tried to tell everyone how important this show was in terms of filling the room, but you can’t move immovable objects, unfortunately. I have friends that I’ve known for forty years or more who have not seen a single Kritzerland show. Not one show. It really frosts me, actually, so when they invite me to stuff, I do not go. It just boggles my already-boggled mind.
Prior to all that, I got nine hours of good sleep, got up at eleven, was disgustingly full of phlegm. That went away slowly over the next few hours. I answered e-mails, did some stuff that needed doing, then shaved and showered and got everything set up for the stumble-through. Then I relaxed until everyone showed up. After the stumble-through, I did give some notes and we ran a few things, then the cast left and the musical director’s daughter sang for me – she’s very good and I think we’ll be able to use her in the next Kritzerland show for at least one number. I always enjoy taking chances on new folks. Then I ate, and the rest you know.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll continue, as will the cast, trying to fill the house, but mostly I’ll relax and rest my voice. I’ll have to do a quick bank run and then pick up a package at the mail place. Then I’ll come back, shave and shower and get ready, and around four-fifteen I’ll gather up everything I need for the show and mosey on over to the club for our five o’clock sound check. Because this is a new club for us, I think we’ll run all the numbers so I can make sure I’m happy with the sound and everything. Then I’ll make sure my table is where I need it to be. Then I’ll have a salad, presuming they have a salad, then we do the show at eight-thirty. Afterwards, I’m sure a few of us will go to Little Toni’s for a bite to eat. They have an Eyetalian sandwich I like and it’s very light. I will, of course, have a full report.
Tomorrow, I have to unwind, then start planning the next show, casting-wise. I’ll have a telephonic meeting with David Wechter in the late afternoon, I’ll eat, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Then we have the long, long weekend and that will be very pleasant.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whaever needs doing, continue to try and fill the house, relax and rest my voice, do a quick bank run and mail place run, come home, shave and shower, do a sound check, do a show, and then have a bite to eat after. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, whilst we try to get butts in seats, which is also the title of my next novel.
