Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Carter Burwell’s lovely score to the equally lovely film, Wonderstruck. I did watch an actual motion picture last evening, In a Lonely Place, starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame. I know it’s a beloved film noir, mostly due to its having been directed by Nicholas Ray, but I’ve seen it now four times and I’m sorry to say that while I can appreciate the performances and various aspects of the film, I don’t really care for it all that much. It happens. That was pretty much it for my viewing, save for some irritating YouTube videos that were – irritating. Otherwise, it was a pretty okay day. I was up at eight after six hours of sleep, I was out the door at eight-twenty-five and decided to breakfast at Hugo’s, where I had pasta papa, which was very good. After that, I stopped at the mail place and picked up a few envelopes of no importance and a ten-dollar residual, plus dear reader Singdaw was kind enough to send me a copy of a review of the Eugene Ormandy stereo box from Fanfare Magazine – very comprehensive it was, too. I used to love Fanfare Magazine and bought every issue – Gramophone, too. Nice to know that both are still around. Then I went to Macy’s to buy new sheets – they had not a single set for California King and said it would take six days to get to me if I ordered it. So, I went to Bloomingdale’s – same exact story. I really don’t understand it. Anyway, whilst at Macy’s, I bought two pairs of pants, and two pullover shirts – all on sale at great prices. As I posted yesterday, I took one look in the try-on room and wanted to vomit on the ground. I am an embarrassment, frankly. I look like an old, pregnant Jew carrying triplets. That was it. Serious dieting ahead and that’s just the way it’s going to have to be for the rest of this year, no matter what. I’ve tried to do it this year, but after a week or two I see no result so I go right back to the horrible habits I picked up during the pandemic. But now, after the mirror incident, I have to be serious about it. The gut has to go. I can’t do the carb and Keto thing – it just makes me feel terrible. So, I’ll do the calorie-counting thing and really try to stick to 1200 a day. But I’m cutting out desserts and sweet treats completely. I’ll do salads but can’t have the crazy fattening dressings I love – but two of my favorite salads have the lightest dressing – the chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK and the Chinese chicken salad from Stanley’s. And I never tire of eating them. I can do my cube steak thing and I’ll just be very strict on the calorie count. The goal will be to lose two pounds a week. That doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. I’ll try to cut down on bread and pasta and potatoes, none of which will be difficult because I’ve had so much pasta this year, I’m quite bored with it. And I can have bread only when it’s a calorie-friendly sandwich. Subway has posted calories for every sandwich and wrap, and if I had a six-inch spicy Eyetalian and a six-inch turkey, that’s exactly 1,000 calories for the two – one for lunch, one for dinner. Or I could do a footlong, but that would be it for the day. I’ll do fruit and low-fat cottage cheese, but I’m going to try and do a lot of salads and protein. Pray for Rosemary’s Baby, baby.
After the Macy’s adventure, I came home and went on the Macy’s website, found the sheets and color I wanted and ordered online – a big sale was on, so I got $250 sheets for eighty bucks. And they’ll be here by Friday. I finished writing the commentary, had some telephonic conversations and got all the paperwork filled out and signed for Medicare Advantage – the have to approve it but that’s just a formality, from what I’m told. It would start June 1. Around five-thirty, I had a little low-fat cottage cheese and then some melon chunks – honeydew and cantaloupe. That was it for food, do I was definitely within 1,200 calories. Then I viewed, and here were are.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, the books are arriving by eleven, so I’ll pick those up and the helper will come Thursday morning and get them all shipped out – finally. I’ll probably have the Chinese chicken salad for food, and I still have melon chunks left for snacks later in the day. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more of the same, then Friday is the first Kritzerland rehearsal, Saturday can be a ME day, Sunday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Tuesday is stumble-through and Wednesday is sound check and show and then we dive right into the June show.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, pick up books and sign and get them ready to be shipped, eat, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, serious about the weighty weight diet as I can be.
