Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, one of his sublime masterpieces. There isn’t all that much to report but report I shall, little as there may be. Let me start by saying that I had occasion to look at a few episodes of Sami, the series we premiered last year, and I must say they’re pretty delightful. Haven’t seen any of them since last April. Sometimes distance can be fun, and this was one of those times. That was all I watched because the majority of the day was spent working on the redo of Benjamin Kritzer. I believe I’ve got it all done now, and once I post these here notes, I’ll give it a onceover and then do an instruction sheet, which will have instructions on it, which is a good thing to have on an instruction sheet. I got up after eight hours of sleep and began the final work and that lasted until almost five. Then I did a few other things, then met a friend at Barone’s for food. I didn’t have carbonara this time – I had a salad and the much less caloric spaghetti and meatballs, which was fantastic. Then I came home and watched the few episodes of Sami. Otherwise, I just relaxed, and a telephonic conversation, and really that was about it. What a short opening this has been. I mean, I could go into detail about the Benjamin Kritzer adjustments, most of which have to do with commas, and smoothing out some formatting issues, as well as the one major fix I did, which did involve textual changes, but I’m so glad I did it – I had the title of a TV show wrong, because there was no Wikipedia in 2001 and Google, which had literally bought Deja News the month I began writing Benjamin Kritzer, and Google was in its infancy. I chose the name the resonated with me and sounded like it could be the show I was on live in 1955, but I had no idea if it was correct or not. Only much later did I realize it was totally wrong, as the show I chose was filmed and not live, nor was it shot in Los Angeles. At the time, I did search other shows and could never pin down any other candidates even though, in fact, the right show was in the list of shows I looked at. But there was virtually almost no information on where it was done or what network aired it. But early last week, I searched through the list again, clicked on each show, and when I came to the right show there was a ton more information now, including that it was done live at KECA TV studios in Hollywood. I’d never heard of KECA but then read that that was the original call letters for KABC – it would become KABC in 1955, the year I was on the show. Everything then made complete sense. So, I revised that section of the book with the right show name and character names. That’s really the only textual change I made. Anyway, it’s done and I feel really good about it.
Today, I’ll be up by ten at the latest, I’ll do some banking that needs doing, I’ll come back and send everything to the designer, then I’ll get back to the business of casting and choosing for the next Kritzerland show. I’ll eat something at some point, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same, some meetings and meals and doing whatever needs doing and there will be plenty that needs doing.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten at the latest, do some banking, send the new and improved manuscript to the designer along with the instruction sheet and a ten-page layout sample with the proper fonts, although they’ll simply match it to Kritzer World, I’ll eat something amusing, I’ll cast and choose, and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Favorite pasta dishes. What is your favorite, what was the best you ever had, and what pasta dishes can you not abide? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to look forward to the new and improved Benjamin Kritzer.
