THE NEED OF SLEEP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was yet another night of less than five hours of sleep, followed by a somewhat frustrating day of frustration. The gal who’s been getting Benjamin Kritzer ready at the publisher, sent me the new galley, which was fine – the first one should have been fine if they hadn’t changed the title page – so, I approved it and signed off on it. Then I got a form email telling me that the resubmitted file would then have to go through content evaluation and copyright evaluation. I responded instantly saying no it did not and that we were not going to be wasting the five days it would take. I informed her that book has been under copyright since 2002, that it’s been in print since that year and therefore none of that stuff had to happen. I also told her that I’m a VIP author there (still the most published author at Author House) and my books never go through the vetting process because after twenty-five books we know what they’re doing. I called my gal but she wasn’t there. I called the Kritzer gal and she wouldn’t pick up. After two hours of no response, I emailed my gal, my check-in gal, and others, telling them what was going on and that I’d appreciate if someone would have a conversation with the gal. I heard back right away from my check-in gal, and she was on it. Suddenly, I heard from the Kritzer gal who told me we were on the fast track. I was so irritated at the lack of communication, that I was ready to pull the book and upload the hard and softcover myself directly to Amazon. So, hopefully thing will now proceed apace. Because of all that, I wasn’t able to fall back asleep. I made one tuna sandwich and ate it and it was fine. I had to turn the air on several times because it was too darn hot in the home environment. I thought about watching a motion picture, but I kept dozing off whilst watching irritating YouTube videos. I probably got an hour or two of sleep whilst sitting on my couch like so much fish. Later, I had a salad for the evening food, as I’d only had the one tuna sandwich. Believe it or not, that was pretty much the day and evening. I got a headache from all the irritation and it’s still with me. I do have some Excedrin here, but I’m not sure of its potency since I bought it at the time I had my first Covid shot. Well, maybe I’ll take a couple and see if it helps. I shall return in a moment.

I took two pills. This is riveting stuff, isn’t it? I am glued to my screen (no mean feat). So far, I still have the headache. Listening to more Yngve Skold – marvelous music. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up at eight and out the door by eight-thirty. Not sure where I’ll breakfast. I don’t want much to eat. After food, I’ll do some errands and whatnot, then return to the home environment at eleven-thirty. I’ll continue the hunt for five young people, I’ll do whatever needs doing, and perhaps I’ll doze off for a bit. I’ll probably get salad for evening food. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, some meetings and meals, a screenplay reading on Friday evening, then I’m hoping the weekend will be relaxing but fun, not necessarily in that order.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight and out the door by eight-thirty, breakfast, do errands and whatnot, come home, continue the hunt for five young people, do whatever needs doing, doze, have a salad for a snack, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What soda pops that have gone the way of the dodo bird do you wish they’d bring back? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hopeful I’ll get at least seven hours of sleep in the need of sleep department.
