THE CONFUSION OF THE DAYS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I was informed at about three in the afternoon yesterday that yesterday was Friday. This was news to me as I was pretty sure it was Thursday. And yet – it was Friday. Sharp-eyed dear readers pointed out that the usual Friday topic was not in evidence, but that was solely due to my thinking it was Thursday. I think I thought it was Thursday because she of the Evil Eye came on Wednesday instead of Tuesday and that discombobulated my brain matter it seems. So, I have surmised that today is Saturday because yesterday wasn’t Thursday, it was Friday despite my thinking it was Thursday due to she of the Evil Eye’s Wednesday appearance rather than Tuesday. Now, normally I would tell you what happened on Thursday but since it wasn’t Thursday, I think I’ll tell you what happened on Friday, which was yesterday even though it wasn’t according to my discombobulated brain matter. The first I can tell you is that I took a Melatonin before getting in bed at one and I then slept ten and a half hours of very needed and very good sleep, with only three awakenings to use the ool to eep. Once up, I did the usual things – answered e-mails, had some telephonic conversations, made two tuna sandwiches and ate them, did a proposal for a library event where I’d speak, do a Q&A and talk about my books and writing. We’ll see how that pans out. Otherwise, it was a fairly quiet day. I’m told it was very hot out, but I never went outside because we’ve been having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave. At some point, I watched some beginnings of movies, I watched a bit of a high school production of Bye Bye Birdie from 2015 in Texas – they used mostly Gower Champion’s choreography from the videos that exist, and then used Onna White’s movie choreography for other numbers. The Rosie was pretty great, I have to say and have said. A tall girl who looked to be about five-foot-ten and was all legs – she could sing well, and she really danced well, especially in the Shriner’s Ballet. She was, apparently, a finalist for some Tommy Tune award that he gives to kids in Texas. Her name is Katie Moore and I looked her up to see if she’d done anything else. Well, despite her love for theater and musicals, she became a top model at seventeen and continues to be one, with major work for Vogue, Chanel, and other top lines. You can see her in the Shriner’s Ballet on YouTube by searching Shriner’s Ballet and Stratford Playhouse, which was/is her high school’s drama department. You can see her modeling stuff on her Instagram page by searching he name and “model”. I’m currently thinking of becoming a model. What do you think of this idea? I would call myself a Model T. I would be an excellent Model T, don’t you agree? What the HELL am I talking about? I also watched a bit of a high school production of The Music Man – the Harold Hill was pretty good, I thought. But it seems to now be a thing to put drums under Rock Island Line, which negates the entire purpose of the number. It’s been going on for about a decade now and I find it incredibly stupid, and I can tell you that Meredith Willson would not have ever allowed it. The minute I heard the drum in the recent Hugh Jackman revival, I had no interest in ever seeing it. I also watched some American Dance Machine videos that were lots of fun. That was about it and here we are.

Today, which, let me remind you, is Saturday not Friday, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, which won’t be much other than the show order and maybe starting to write the commentary and I’ve also been making scads of notes about next year’s book and since it will be a fairly short book, I may write a second book, too, and I’ve been making scads of notes on that one. I’ll eat something amusing – thinking about more faux chicken stroganoff or maybe some other kind of chicken dish of my own concocting – we shall see. I’ll check with the mail place and see if there’s anything there worth picking up, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I may have a meal out with someone – we’ll see if that pans out – otherwise it will just be a ME day, and then next week is busy and send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for good news that could lead to modern major miracles.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, work on the show order and commentary, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What high school productions have you seen that were really good or had someone of extraordinary potential? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping we have no further confusion of the days.
