Well, dear readers, the confounding coil is not coming until Monday morning, when it will be installed at seven in the morning. That’s six days I will have had to endure this. This is very irritating, and I wish another A/C person had been called, one who might have actually had the damn coil in the first place. But you know how it is – if it’s not happening to them, they simply don’t care. It’s currently eighty-two in the home environment, the hottest it’s been since last Tuesday. At least the other nights it stayed about seventy-eight. I have sweat on my forehead, and I do not sweat easily. Sorry to rant and have this be the diary of a mad BK, but it’s just ridiculous. Yesterday, I got five hours of sleep and was up at nine because I could not fall back asleep. Once up, I answered e-mails, did a few things that needed doing, had a particularly lousy Eyetalian sub from Firehouse Subs – the other two were very good – this thing looked like it had been sitting around for an hour. Perhaps they made it right away but the Dasher didn’t get it for twenty minutes. Anyway, it was really not very good – I ate it, of course, but I will not be going back there ever again. After that, I will admit to sitting on the couch and dozing off for about an hour. Then I had to do some work with the author of a play and hopefully that work will be helpful to him. That ate up a couple of hours and I hope it was tastier than that lousy sub. That sub was subpar, not good, blecch. Then I had some telephonic conversations, after which I sat on my couch like so much subpar fish and watched a motion picture that I hadn’t seen since it came out in 1970 entitled Diary of a Mad Housewife, a film of Frank Perry, written by Eleanor Perry from a novel by Sue Kaufman, starring Richard Benjamin, Carrie Snodgress, and Frank Langella. It was fairly controversial at the time and it was also a hit. Carrie Snodgress was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar and she is the film. Richard Benjamin got lots of laughs and then not lots of laughs – his character is one of the most irritating and obnoxious men in the history of the movies. The man she chooses to have an affair with is, for me, even worse, especially as played so convincingly by Frank Langella. There was, for the time, a lot of nudity. Seeing it fifty-four years later was interesting – it’s very well done but the two male characters are so over-the-top boorish that it becomes cartoony after a while. But Snodgress is great still. The film suffers a bit from no score. Anyway, it was fun to see it again.
After that, I watched the first forty minutes of Psycho, purportedly the new 4K uncut transfer. But unless you have a 4K TV presumably, what you in fact get is the old cut version. The film is a marvel still. I also watched the opening ten minutes of House on Haunted Hill, starring Vincent Price, directed by William Castle. The titular house was played by the iconic and justly famous Ennis House in Los Feliz, designed by Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright. Although it’s in the public domain, the transfer seems very nice indeed. I saw the film back in 1959 at my beloved Stadium Theater, and unless I’m misremembering, I believe we got the Emergo skeleton thing. After that, I had some chicken noodle soup and some potato salad from Mel’s. And here we are. Hot.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll maybe have a meeting/meal in the afternoon (not for sure), I’ll see if anything’s at the mail place, and then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
The weekend is anyone’s guess, although unless the temperature outside drops, we won’t have to guess that it will be hot inside. Monday, I have to be up at seven for the coil thing, and then hopefully all will be well and the thing will work as it should.
Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the old-fashioned waltz, for today is the birthday of our very own vixmom. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own vixmom. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN VIXMOM!!!
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, maybe have a meeting/meal, check with the mail place, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and you DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, who knows. Streaming, House on Haunted Hill. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, finished writing in the diary of a mad BK.
