NOT LOST IN THE WILDERNESS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had every intention of starting to write these here notes thirty minutes ago but got sucked into the hell hole of a Facebook discussion. Getting into a discussion with people who LOVE something to excess and beyond all reason is a fool’s game, but it’s hard to not respond. That part is fine – what’s not fine is the pile on by the three FANatics who cannot stop with the responses and post things that you have to respond to so that factual information is not lost in the wilderness. I, myself, have never been lost in the wilderness but there’s a very good reason for that – I’ve never BEEN in the damn wilderness and have no desire to BE in the damn wilderness. Anyway, I’m here now, at the end of a weirdly weird day of weirdness. Nothing horrible, really, just weirdly weird. I did get a bit over ten hours of sleep and didn’t arise until 12:45. Once up, I had endless e-mails to respond to and a couple of telephonic calls. A couple of e-mails required lengthy responses and hopefully those responses will do the trick and potentially potential things might work out in a pleasing way. Do send some excellent vibes and xylophones, won’t you? I’ll excuse anyone who’s lost in the wilderness, of course. For food, I wanted quick and easy and opted for the quickest and easiest, Panda Express – orange chicken, some chow mein, and a bit of white rice. It arrived in ten minutes and was fine – never great, but always fine. Then another e-mail came and that required a telephonic conversation to discuss its contents and then a conference call to make sure everyone involved understood the questions that needed answering. That was pretty quick – about ten or fifteen minutes – and hopefully THAT will do the trick, too. At some point, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish. I started to watch two different movies I’d never heard of – one from last year, one from this, but after the tenth company logo I shut it off. I’ve had it with the endless company logos and then repeating all those company names right after – it’s become completely ludicrous, a perfect example of if you give an inch, they’ll take a mile. Whilst trying to choose something else I dozed off for about twenty minutes. Then I watched the first twenty minutes of Woody Allen’s Bananas. Even back in the day, it wasn’t my favorite Woody film, although it did have many hilarious and inspired bits of business. Some of the dialogue would certainly not play well today with certain types – I mean stuff that got screaming laughs back then. I do prefer Take the Money and Run and Sleeper of his early movies. And then Love and Death, which was a huge step up for him in terms of scope and humor.

Then I watched the first twenty minutes of Valentino, a motion picture about Rudolph Valentino, starring Nureyev as Valentino. It’s a Ken Russell film and believe me, you know that in the first five minutes. It was a big ol’ flop, but it looks great, and I’m interested to finish it. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up by ten or so, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll shave and shower, I’ll take the motor car and go to Gelson’s and get something that’s quick to go, come home and eat it, and then at two we begin the long second Kritzerland rehearsal. We do get a thirty-minute break at some point. We should wrap at seven-thirty. After that, I’m sure I’ll be exhausted, so I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is a complete day of rest, hoping for a modern major miracle that’s needed, but basically a ME day. I’ll also finesse the commentary so that it’s ready to go. Saturday is our stumble-through at two and that should last about an hour and ten minutes, I should think. I’ll give notes, we’ll run whatever we have to, and then I’ll rest and relax and I must get to bed right after posting the notes. Sunday, I’ll be up by seven-thirty and out the door by nine and to the club by nine-thirty or so. We do our sound check at ten, which should take a while given the number of kids in the show who will absolutely need to run every number, then the show is at one. Believe you me, I will be going for a nice meal afterwards.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten or so, do whatever needs doing, shave and shower, go to Gelson’s and bring back something to eat, eat whatever that is, have a long rehearsal, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite bio-pics? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy not to be lost in the wilderness.
