WHEN IT WANES IT POURS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, enjoying the waning minutes of Saturday, prior to the arrival of Sunday. This was a riveting opening, wasn’t it? This opening had me on the edge of my seat. This grabbed me by the shirt and wouldn’t let me go. And you know what else they say – when it wanes it pours. We don’t allow groaning here at haineshisway.com. Even I groaned, and I am not normally a groaner. I wonder if Harry Groener is a groaner? I did watch the first thirty minutes of a thoroughly irritating new movie on Prime entitled Drive-Away Dolls, starring Margaret Qualley and others. It’s a Coen Brothers movie sans one Cohen, Joel. This is Ethan and his wife, who’s the editor of the film and co-writer. But it’s a bona-fide smart-ass Coen Brothers movie in temperament and style. I’ve liked a few of their movies, mostly Raising Arizona, but ultimately, I grew tired of them. I’ll attempt to finish it at some point, but a little of that goes a long way. Otherwise, I was watching quite a few YouTube videos about LA restaurants – you know, these channels with people telling everyone the greatest LA jernts for various kinds of food, with the only problem being is they know very little about LA. For example, as of the ones I’ve watched, there’s not a single jernt in the Valley. Also, I find the people pontificating almost insufferably insufferable. But in the best cheeseburgers in LA, for example, they of course included a smash burger jernt – well, no, let’s leave the trendy crap out of this. I mean, the cheeseburger was INVENTED in LA, Pasadena to be exact, and that’s the only place they went that I have to now try – very famous, been there forever, but I really never go to Pasadena – Pie and Burger it’s called, and that is the very restaurant the first put cheese on a burger. Their burger is everything I love – one patty, a slice of cheese, onion, lettuce, pickles, tomato, and Thousand Island dressing. What could be better than that? I was salivating as I watched. Then there was another guy, Asian fellow, who did a whole video on Langer’s. That was nice, He ordered three different sandwiches and some other stuff. But since he clearly is clueless about Jewish delis his opinion is kind of irrelevant. He even admits to never having had matzoh ball soup or a knish (he pronounces it “kneesh”), or even an actual deli pastrami sandwich. He only knew from non-deli-style pastrami things on hoagies and stuff. He did like everything he tried, but he really didn’t know enough to try the kishka or the best potato pancakes in the world. But I salivated, oh, yes, I salivated, and next week, should it get a 50% off thing from Uber Eats, I will have sandwich and potato pancakes for sure. And even though it probably wouldn’t travel well, I’ll see if can get get a Pie and Burger cheeseburger. But you know where they didn’t go for a cheeseburger? The Apple Pan. In their video about donuts, you know where they didn’t go? K’s Donuts. I mean, really, they ought to consult with me, don’t you think?

I did get ten hours of excellent sleep, got up at noon o’clock, answered a lot of e-mails, had some telephonic conversations, including Muse Margaret, for food I had fried catfish, a tiny thing of lobster mac and cheese, and a tiny thing of yams. All good. The only other food I ate was a bagel. And that was pretty much the day and evening – catching up on a lot of things and food videos. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I may take a walk or a drive and then we’ll see how the day and evening goes.

Tomorrow will be more of the same and perhaps seeing a show, and then the rest of the week will be Kritzerland show stuff, meetings and meals, and doing whatever needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, take a walk or a drive or even both, eat, and then we’ll see what is what. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy in the knowledge that the waning minutes of Saturday evening have yielded to Sunday, and that we had an excellent Harry Groener in when it wanes it pours.
