Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the beautiful Ravel string quartet for string quartet. I don’t always care for chamber music, but this is incredibly beautiful music – then again, it’s Ravel, so what else is new? Before I go any further, in the Kritzerland show we did a newish What If – so, I thought I’d share it with you, since it wasn’t filmed. What if Kander and Ebb, instead of writing Cabaret, had written – Gypsy. And it goes something like this (to the tune of Don’t Tell Mama.
Mama, really thinks I have no talent,
And because I have no talent
I’m the back end of a cow.
Mama, doesn’t even have an inkling,
That I have the kind of talent
That she never would allow.
So, please, sir, if you run into my mama,
Don’t reveal my little secret,
Let me entertain you now…
Hush up, don’t tell mama,
Shush up, don’t tell mama,
Don’t tell mama, whatever you do.
If she sees this Gypsy
Do her little strip, see,
She’ll sing Rose’s Turn, it’s true!
But here’s the one thing that we can determine,
If she finds out, she’ll start to sing like Ethel Merman!
So, let’s not have that drama,
Keep this from my mama,
Though my strip is not against the law.
You can go tell Yonkers, that’s all right,
‘Cause he’s here watching every night…
But don’t tell mama what you saw!
Mama, thinks I’m helping with the costumes,
And that maybe I’ll say lines for
A comic in this burlecue.
Mama, never thought I’d take my clothes off,
So, let’s keep it very quiet,
And she’ll never have a clue.
So please sir, if you run into my mama,
Don’t reveal my indiscretion,
I’ll sing out Louise for you…
Hush up, don’t tell mama,
Shush up, don’t tell mama,
Don’t tell mama, and we’ll have a ball.
When you see me bump it
I won’t need a trumpet,
It’s a small world after all.
But if you go and tell her of my hustle
Her voice will drop an octave just like Rosalind Russell
So, let’s trust one another,
Keep this from my mother,
Though I’m still as pure as pure can be.
You can go tell Herbie here and now,
‘Cause he’s my agent anyhow,
But don’t tell mama what you see.
You can go tell June, she might say “Oh!”
But then she might just join the show,
So, don’t tell mama or she’ll blow.
You can go tell Tulsa, that’s okay,
’Cause we all know that Tulsa’s gay,
But don’t tell mama, no sir,
Don’t tell mama, please sir,
Don’t tell mama what you know…
If you see my mama, mum’s the word!
Isn’t that cute? Anastasia Barzee did it hilariously. Earlier last evening, I did watch a motion picture entitled The Blob, starring Steven McQueen. Since I was rather feeling like a blob, I thought it an appropriate choice. It’s a surprisingly talky little film, but I have great nostalgia for it, since seeing it at the Stadium theater when it came out. Then I watched the first twenty minutes of The Thief of Bagdad, surely one of THE most entertaining movies ever made. I’ll finish that up soon. One of the great villains of all time in Conrad Veidt. But the entire cast is fantastic. More when I finish it. Otherwise, I got eight hours of sleep, answered e-mails, and basically the day was spent at the piano working on my little project. I took time out for food – chicken salad sandwich from a jernt that was new to me – it was very good – and a few onion rings. I’m now awaiting the arrival of California Roll for my snack from a nearby sushi jernt. That was pretty much it – a few telephonic calls, a few irritating YouTube videos, and now, Ravel.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, which won’t be much, I’ll work at the piano a bit, and then I may or may not have a dinner out. We shall see. After that, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow will be a lovely ME day. Then this week I have to start doing some early prep work for the Kritzerland holiday show, I have several errands that need doing, two of which are over the hill, some meetings and meals, and doing whatever needs doing.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, work at the piano a bit, check with the mail place, perhaps have a dinner out, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite fantasy films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have seen The Blob again after all this time.
