Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, continuing my Howard Hanson listening – now playing, his lovely third symphony. This guy really is the berries. And really, let’s get the movies I watched out of the way right now. First up was a documentary on the woman who brought the “topless” craze to fruition in San Francisco, Carol Doda. What a fascinating time that was, circa 1964/1965 when the world was changing. How her topless thing happened is really interesting and how it caught on and soon was a “thing” is even more interesting. Tons of interviews by women who took part in it and lots of archival stuff with Carol herself, who began with perfectly normal to small boobs, but then became the poster child for silicone injections, which turned out much later to be a disaster for almost all who had them. Anyway, it goes on about fifteen minutes too long, but I enjoyed it, mostly for the historical film clips. I, myself, frequently went topless back then. I was quite the sensation. Then I watched a “thriller” – yes, another terrible thriller, this one from 2008, entitled Deception, starring Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor, and a young Michelle Williams. Preposterous from first frame to last, everything is so obvious at every step of the way, it’s laughable. The best thing in the movie is a one-scene brief appearance by Charlotte Rampling – I thought for once she might get through a movie without taking her clothes off, but she didn’t. And it just goes on and on and on and then peters out completely. And then I watched the first half of I suppose what you could call a thriller, but this one works on every level and is still frightening and relevant all these years later – The China Syndrome. I’ll say more when I’ve finished it, which will be after I finish these here notes. Otherwise, I got seven hours of good sleep, got up, answered e-mails, went to Gelson’s and got bagels, lox, and cream cheese for food, came home, ate – and boy was it good – had my ME day, doing only a little bit of writing on next year’s novel, then began my viewing. After the first two movies, I had more lox and bagels, still good, and then I was, of course, craving a sweet and I really wanted a slice of Paty’s cherry pie like I had a couple of days ago. I succumbed and got it a la mode – it got here very quickly, I heated up the pie and it was great. Not all cherry pie are made equal and Paty’s is the best I’ve had. Then I watched the first hour of The China Syndrome, and then it was time to write these here notes. And here we are, in the midst of writing them.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll choose the final four songs for the holiday show and continue to send out music, I’ll probably finish the lox and bagels that are left, I’ll pray for a modern major miracle to come through, and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same, she of the Evil Eye comes tomorrow morning, I have my eye doctor appointment early on Thursday, and then the day after that is shockingly a new month and we’re into the final two months of this year. I just cannot believe we’re already approaching a new year. Mind boggling, really.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, choose the last of the songs for the holiday show, send out music, eat, pray for a modern major miracle to come through, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite motion pictures starring Miss Jane Fonda, Mr. Michael Douglas, and Mr. Jack Lemmon? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, thinking about personally bringing back the topless trend.
