Well, dear readers, last night I attended a big ol’ concert for the late and so missed Richard M. Sherman at the El Capitan, produced by Richard’s son Gregg, Howard Green, Tim O’Day, and Don Hahn. There were a LOT of performers singing a lot of classics, and it was a lovelier than lovely evening. Howard, who is one of the really good guys, arranged for me to sit in the reserved section (open seating, otherwise), which was great – assigned seats, so no rush to go grab seats. Very thoughtful. There was a nice opening montage featuring covers and posters from a lot of projects and I was very happy to see they snuck in Levi amongst them, because we were all so proud of it and because it meant so much to Richard that we brought it to life. Of course, I loved Hayley Mills being there and she was charming as ever. Jodi Benson sang Feed the Birds, Michael Feinstein hosted and sang a few songs, Marc Shaiman flew in from England to do a little medley, and lots of other good folks sang their hearts out. Richard Allen led the seven-piece band very well (you cannot imagine how much work it is for him), and I was grateful to be there, and it just brought home how much I miss my friend. Everyone who ever met him loved him, so that feeling permeated the house. Also, I knew tons of folks there, so it was nice to see everyone.
Prior to the show, Doug Haverty, who was kind enough to drive, since I’m not that comfortable driving at night, and I had a meal at CPK – I had my usual chopped Eyetalian salad thing, and he had a Thai crunch salad that he didn’t really care for. Prior to THAT, I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered a lot of e-mails, did a few things on the computer, had some telephonic conversations, made the appointment with the doctor who’ll eventually be doing the eye surgery, I shaved and showered, and then Doug arrived with his motor car and off we went. And here we are.
But before we move on, I think we all forgot a rather major anniversary that happened on November 9. Yes, we ALL forgot it and it should NEVER be forgotten, so let’s have a little belated anniversary love for – haineshisway.com, which began life on November 9, 2001, and from a week after that, I have never missed a single day of blogging. That’s something else, isn’t it? I do believe we are now into our twenty-fourth year? Or is it twenty-three? I can never figure these things out so someone let us know, one of our math experts who is expert in math. Sometime, check out the stats – the amazing number of postings we’ve had (over a million and a half), and all the other glorious stats – I do feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll check with the mail place and if there’s anything there I’ll go retrieve it, I’ll eat, I’ll do the bit of writing I never got to yesterday, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow and Sunday will be ME days, and then things get VERY busy next week – like super duper quadruper busy.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, check with the mail place, eat, write, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start, – CD, William Steinberg conducting stuff. Streaming – a bunch of stuff on Kino’s channel. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have gone to the concert for Richard, who I miss every day.
