Well, dear readers, yesterday was certainly a day, a dilated day but the day is done, and a new day is upon us and, of course, I have breaking bombshell news: It is November. Can you believe it? We’re now in the final two months of 2024 and that just boggles my already boggled mind. In any case, it is November, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that November will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. Back to yesterday, which was certainly a day, a dilated day. I had so much anxiety that I had trouble sleeping – really, only about four hours, I think, maybe five. I finally got out of bed at about seven, answered a few e-mails, then a friend came and drove me. Worried that Laurel Canyon would be horrible traffic, we left at 7:40. Happily, and isn’t it always this way, there was very little traffic most of the way and we arrived around eight-twenty. So, we sat in the car until about ten to nine and then went up to the doctor’s office. I had to sign a few things – very simple and all on an iPad – and then right on time at nine-thirty, they called me in. First, a young gal did all the preliminary stuff – chart reading, eye pressure and other stuff with a machine, and then the famous dilating. She said the second set of drops might sting, but it didn’t. Then I sat for about twenty minutes, after which the young doctor came in. We chatted about the problems with the right eye, clarified that I ONLY see double when both eyes are open and it’s the right eye that’s off, then he did a bunch of tests and took lots of notes and he said it is indeed a weak muscle or maybe it might be two muscles – the final decision on WHICH muscles and how many will be made by the surgeon. He sent in the referral request for the surgeon he thinks is the best and there shouldn’t be a problem with it, but we have to wait until that goes through. He was very nice, said I have really excellent vision for my age – 20/20 left eye 25/20 right eye. The fact is, when we were doing the eye chart stuff I didn’t miss one letter, not even on the tiniest line. He said like most my age, I do have mild cataracts but they’re nothing we need to deal with now. All told, I was there an hour and I left feeling very hopeful, the polar opposite of how I felt going in. Then I was returned to the home environment (of course, I had to wear my sunglasses outside so the light wouldn’t hurt my dilated eyeballs). I caught up on all the e-mails and various responses, then for the third day in a row, I ordered food from Paty’s – two biscuits and gravy and about six wings with ranch dressing. It was all very good, but now I can take a break from Paty’s. After eating, I drove carefully to the mail place, where I picked up the more important of the two important envelopes and a small package. Hopefully, the second important envelope will arrive today. I came right back home, had a telephonic conversation, then sat on my couch like so much fish and promptly dozed off for over an hour.
Then I watched a two-and-a-half-hour new documentary entitled Made in England: The Films of Pressburger and Powell, with on-camera stuff from Martin Scorsese. It’s a bit long for its own good, but boy do we get a ton of clips, especially from Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death, and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. It did make me want to see all those movies again immediately. And here we are.
Today, I’ll be up around ten, and then I’ll mosey on over to the bank to cash a check around eleven and then deposit the cash into my branch of my bank. Once that’s done, I’ll come home, eat something fun, check to see if the other important envelope arrived and if it hopefully has, I’ll go get it and deposit it into the ATM, I’ll come back home, do some writing, announce the holiday show and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow can be a ME day, and then Sunday I’m going to see a play, basically just to see the set before meeting with its designer at some point soon. Then next week is very busy. Here’s the flyer – we’ll have our own, of course, but this one was done by the Arboretum.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up around ten, do some banking, eat, hopefully pick up the second important envelope, do some writing, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, the last of the Howard Hanson stuff. Blu-ray, a Pressburger and Powell festival. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall not be dilated, and as we welcome November, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that November will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
