Well, dear readers, I saw yet another 2024 motion picture last night, something called Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman. They call it an erotic thriller. I’m not going to dwell on this film too much – whether it’s erotic or not depends on what you’re into – I’m not much into master/slave stuff, I’m not into anyone flirtatiously drinking a glass of milk to be subservient, not to mention being on all fours and drinking milk from a plate like a cat on a hot tin floor. As to thriller, a big no to that – there is not a single thriller thing in this movie. Other than some very brief flashes of Ms. Kidman, there’s not much nudity – it’s actually quite tame in that regard. You want NUDITY, The First Nudie Musical is streaming on Prime for free. I suppose the actors are fine, but there are many scenes where everyone is whispering, and you cannot understand a word anyone is saying. Playing Ms. Kidman’s husband is Antonio Banderas, and I couldn’t understand much of anything he said, either. The score is – whatever it is – the look of the film is very much Mr. Lyne and Mr. Verhoeven. It’s gotten mostly good reviews, mostly because people are afraid of poorly reviewing movies like this, due to its female power dynamics, which is odd because for all of the Kidman character’s power dynamics in her workplace, she seems to have none as a human being in terms of carnal desires. If you like this sort of thing, you might get a kick out of it. As for me, as Cole Porter put it: I get no kick from this film. I’ve found more snap, crackle, and pop in a box of Rice Krispies. Well, almost. As to earlier events, I got five hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had Panda Express for food – the usual orange chicken and string bean chicken – not too good a batch. I went to the mail place and picked up a package from Author House – bookmarks and postcards for Kritzer World. A year late, I’d say. Then I went to the really cheap gas station not too far from the home environment – very crowded, but I got a pump without waiting. $4.09 was the price per gallon, which was a dollar cheaper than the Shell station not far from me, and forty cents cheaper than the closer cheap station near me. There was still gas in the car, so it cost fifty-two bucks. Then I came home and played on the computer for a bit, then watched a few irritating YouTube videos, and then began watching the movie.
I took a break at the one-hour point. I’ve been seeing videos about Five Guys’ Patty Melt. It’s been a “secret” item menu for ages, but now they’re actually rolling it out as a not secret item. It sounded worth trying and so try it I did. What they do is grill an upside-down burger bun, and then it’s basically a grilled cheese sandwich with a burger patty and onions. It wasn’t too bad at all – not great – but it’s small and tasted pretty okay. Also, David Wechter’s mom stopped by with some of her famous noodle kugel. I heated up a piece and it was really good and made a nice little sweet treat. Then I finished the movie and here we are.
Today, the only decision I have to make is what to eat. I can order online or perhaps venture out briefly for something. I’m kind of wanting to try the McRib from McDonald’s but I’m just afraid of the nearby one as they’re just not very good. I’ve also been thinking about Popeye’s and that’s the cheapest meal in town for me – two mild chicken breasts and the two biscuits that come with them – total is eight bucks. We shall see what we shall see. Otherwise, I’ll just putter around the home environment and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, I’ll do some shopping for the little January 1 gathering I normally do – I’ll probably rustle up some faux chicken stroganoff or Wacky Noodles or something and maybe also get some pinwheel sandwiches – they have a very inexpensive platter of them. No other plans besides that, really. Tuesday, I get my permanent crown – have no memory of the appointment time, although I assume it will be around eleven-thirty – they’re very good about giving a reminder call. I’m hoping it doesn’t require Novocain. And then it’s our Annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Bash right here at haineshisway.com and you must come to watch some balls drop. It’s always a fun partay. At eleven, I’ll do my contemplation thing, and then at midnight I’m gonna let it all hang out and have my one sip of champagne. Then the next morning, I start writing my new book, which I’m already twenty pages into. I’ll start by futzing and finessing those pages, and then continuing on, hoping to do at least another ten or fifteen. At four, guests will arrive for fun and food.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, figure out food and watch, listen and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having seen an erotic thriller sans the erotic and thriller.
