Well, dear readers, I am officially on vacation until January 1, 2025. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am on vacation until January 1, 2025. I shall do nothing other than what I wish to do and what I wish to do is nothing other than what I wish to do and that includes being redundantly redundant. It is MY two weeks and those who try to trifle with it will be in for a rude awakening. Well, if that wasn’t a riveting opening, I don’t know what. Actually, I DON’T know what, I only know who and I don’t know. What am I, Abbott and Costello all of a sudden? Anyway, moving right along, I finished the final two movies in the Georges Simenon Mysteries series. Episode five, In Case of Bad Luck, was pretty good – not true to the book it’s based on at all (In Case of Emergency), as the change the lead character from a male to a female, which means completely altering the plot. What it has going for it is the superb actress Line Renaud, who was so wonderful in the film Driving Madeline. This movie had a completely different creative team, save for the screenwriter who wrote all six movies. I majorly missed the music of Jean Musy, but it was certainly competent, and Miss Renaud is worth the watch. The sixth and final movie was entitled Death of an Old Man, based on the book The Old Man Dies. This was probably my second favorite episode after three and two. It’s a good yarn with terrific actors (three of them appeared in other movies in this series), and a great score by Mr. Musy. I wish there were more of these. They had so many other non-Maigret novels to choose from. I’m also halfway through another French movie from France that’s very enjoyable, entitled Children of the Lie. I have another thirty minutes to go, which I’ll watch as soon as I post these here notes. Prior to all that nice viewing, I got nine hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, shaved, and then walked over to Jinky’s, which is a half-mile walk from here and a very pleasant one at that. I had a fun lunch – I had eight drumettes with no sauce, so reasonable, calorie-wise. After lunch, I walked across the street to Ralph’s and got a pound of ground beef for today’s experiment in meatloafing. I’m excited to attempt the meatloaf. I picked up some more blueberries, added raspberries to the berry partay, got paper plates for the do, a pre-made Caesar for my evening snack (under 300 calories), and some aluminum foil, which I was about to run out of. Thankfully, it all fit in one bag and then I walked back home. Weather was very pleasant, so the walk was nice and energizing. Once home, I did a few things on the computer, then began the marathon viewing session, taking breaks between the movies to have the salad and some berries, which were berry good. And here we are.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever I damn well feel like, I’ll do the great meatloaf experiment and make a little salad to go with it, I’ll eat it if its edible and save the rest for tomorrow, and then mostly I’ll continue organizing things and getting rid of stuff that’s still in boxes in the den, like my latest books. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same and I don’t care who knows it.
Now, wait just a damn minute. Hold your horses, hold the phone, but we missed an important birthday yesterday and I’m quite angry with myself unless our calendar is wrong. So, let’s celebrate today because yesterday was the birthday of our very own indispensable ChasSmith. So, let’s give a big belated haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own indispensable ChasSmith. On the count of three – A BIG BELATED HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN INDISPENSABLE CHASSMITH!!!
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever I damn well feel like, attempt to make a meatloaf and a little salad to go with it, eat, organize, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite dishes to make at home all by your lonesome. You may feel free to share recipes, too. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that I am officially on vacation.
