SEEING THE EYE SURGEON ON A MONDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this month is flying by, like a gazelle both looking for and eating a Mr. Goodbar. I am currently sitting here like so much fish, trying to gird my ever present loins for this appointment tomorrow with the eye surgeon. Not so much the appointment itself but getting there. None of the maps I’ve seen have been helpful, the route that Google maps is suggesting is just weird to me and the only thing that’s made ANY sense is getting off the freeway and taking Sepulveda until it intersects with Centinela, but it looks hard to see where exactly that happens. Usually, if you look at photos and/or directions, they make sense. Not this jernt. We’ll see what the lady who speaks on Google maps has to say when I’m on my way there two hours in advance. Crazy making. I could not settle on a movie to watch. So irritating, but I just couldn’t concentrate. I couldn’t even listen to music. Antsy. That’s what it was. Antsy. I do not like that feeling. It sends me reeling. I also didn’t watch any movies during the day, In fact, these will be the most boring notes in history. I got over ten hours of good sleep, got up, answered e-mails, ordered a chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK that arrived thirty minutes later, ate it all up – very good – and that was my food intake for the entire day and evening. Didn’t even think about having anything else, so that’s a good sign. I like a good sign every now and then, don’t you? Some signs I like are “Out to Lunch,” “Be Back Soon,” “Enter,” “Seat Yourself,” and “Open.” Those are all good signs. The good sign I’m currently looking for is “Modern Major Miracles Straight Ahead” so hopefully I’ll see that sign very soon or there will be hell toupee. What then? Well, that’s the problem. Nothing then. I just puttered around the house doing nothing. I did watch some irritating YouTube videos that were irritating, and I’ve been watching videos about the new iMac M4 chip and the Mini Mac with the M4 chip – those are not only not so informative, they’re downright confusing. It’s all nerdy tech talk by youngsters who are making a ton of money on these videos. We’re all in the wrong line of work, folks. And I’m afraid that’s all she wrote, folks. A ME day, for sure, but certainly not a very interesting one. We need some excitement. Anyone for Parchesi?

Today, I’ll be up at seven and out the door by eight. I probably won’t get on the 101 because transitioning to the 405 South even at non-rush hour is terrible. So, I’ll probably take Ventura to the 405 on-ramp just past Sepulveda. Crazy making. I really don’t think it will take over an hour, but better safe than sorry. I’ll just park and sit in the car until it’s time to go in at ten o’clock and check in for the ten-fifteen appointment. I suspect it will take about forty-five minutes, that’s my guess, anyway. Then I’ll find a freeway entrance and come back to the Valley. First item will be banking. Once that’s done and hopefully that will go quickly, I may go sit somewhere and have a meal – plenty of choices around there. After that, next item would be the mail place – I think screeners are coming today – then home, James. Then I can finally unwind and watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, so I’m really looking forward to that. I think it ends around five-thirty or so. Wednesday and Thursday there are things to do, Friday is our second rehearsal, then Saturday is our stumble-through, Sunday is our show and then some kind of birthday dinner out somewhere but have no idea where or even who will go but I sure would like to do something for the lucky sevens birthday. Then the following week I get my permanent new crown, I’m being taken for a belated birthday dinner, and then I think it’s clear sailing to the end of the year, with our annual Christmas Eve Do and the usual New Year’s Eve Bash here at haineshisway.com, and then on New Year’s Day, jumping into the new book. I may write another few pages prior to that, just to get to the next sequence of the book, which is almost but not quite the end of chapter one.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up at seven and out the door at eight, pray the drive is easy and smooth, have the appointment, come back to the Valley, do banking, eat lunch somewhere, go to the mail place, then finally come home, where I will ultimately watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Speaking of Mr. Goodbar, what were your favorite candy bars when you were growing up. Do you remember the first candy bar you had? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as I gird the loins for a hopefully easy and smooth drive.
