Well, dear readers, what if Rodgers and Hammerstein were writing these here notes? What would that be like? Well, let’s see.
Hello, dear readers, whoever you are,
I hope your troubles are few.
All of the notes you’ve read here today,
We’re written by a Jew.
Or:
A modern major miracle
A modern major miracle
Is needed every day
And all the vibes that people send
They make the miracles a trend
Yes, I think famous songwriters of the musical theater should take a shot at these here notes, don’t you? That could be a new feature. In other news, the drive to the eye doctor’s yesterday morning – the one that GPS had given me warnings about, the one that looked “red” all the way from the Valley to just before the 10 interchange, the one where I was told that every off-ramp between Getty Center Drive and Pico Boulevard was closed, the estimated drive time was forty-seven minutes – none of it, not a single thing proved to be true. First, GPS said that getting on the 405 from the Ventura Blvd. on-ramp would take a very long time, which is usually the case there, and it tried to divert me onto Sepulveda to use the on-ramp that’s south of there. I didn’t take the bait this time, because when I took the bait last time, it resulted in my motor car being sliced and diced. I’d left plenty of time to get there, leaving the home environment at nine-twenty. So, I figured even if it took ten minutes to get on the freeway from that on-ramp, I’d still have plenty of time. I got to the on-ramp and was on the 405 in twenty seconds – no traffic at all. The freeway was slow, but never stopped moving. So much for RED all the way. Every off-ramp from Getty Center Drive to Pico Blvd. was open. I saw not even a puff of smoke from fires they said were poised to jump the 405, so thankfully that prediction did not come to pass. Twice Miss GPS Voice warned me – first that there were police ahead. There were no police anywhere that I could see. Second, that there was a stalled car and that things were at a standstill. I saw no stalled car nor were things ever at a standstill. As soon as I passed Sunset Blvd. there was no traffic at all all the way to Jefferson Blvd. where I got off the freeway. The drive took thirty minutes, start to finish. And thank goodness for that.
The doctor did some more tests, and things were not as bad as last time, which he found interesting. But he really wants the MRI and blood test, so that’s now all in the works. I was there for an hour. The drive home was twenty minutes. Not a lick of traffic anywhere. I stopped at Gelson’s and got some creamy tomato soup, turkey, roast beef, and rye bread, came home, had the soup and a turkey sandwich, and then futzed and finessed, doing the usual things. Once that was done, I wrote a couple of new pages. I had some telephonic conversations, wrote a bit more, had more telephonic conversations. Had a roast beef sandwich in the early evening, wrote a few more pages for a total of ten, and I’ll definitely write five more before I go to bed. I also took a brief break and watched thirty minutes of a thriller called Anna, one of those wacky Luc Besson things, which I always enjoy because he seems to have so much fun doing them. This one’s yet another female assassin movie. I like the actress who plays the title character – never seen her before but she’s quite appealing – Sasha Luss is her name. Cillian Murphy is also in it, as is Helen Mirren. I’ll either stay up and finish it tonight or finish it tomorrow night.
Today, I’ll try to be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll futz and finesse and send the new batch of pages to Muse Margaret, then I’ll write new pages, eat, call the mail place and see what’s what and go there if there’s something there, write new pages, and then at some point, watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more of the same as I head into the home stretch of the new book, plus I’ll meet with a set designer at the theater. Thursday, I’ll meet with another set designer at the theater, and I hope that one of them works out. Thursday night, we have our second casting session, then callbacks will be the following Tuesday. Friday, I’m attending an opening night, Saturday, I’m attending a birthday party, and of course I hope to finish the book by Friday or Saturday, although if it takes longer then it takes longer.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be up by eleven at the latest, futz and finesse and send all the new batch of pages to Muse Margaret, write new pages, eat, check with the mail place, write new pages, and then at some point watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite films starring Sasha Luss – I’m kidding – starring Helen Mirren? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote the opening of these here notes.
