THE CONTINUING SAGA OF THE EYEBALL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, once again I must write these here notes in a hurry, for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and I of the Wonky Eye must leave whilst she does her thing. So, let us begin with the Wonky Eye business. Yesterday morning, I left the home environment at eight-thirty, went to Laurel Canyon, and took that all the way over the hill. I was dreading the approach to Mulholland because the cars are always backed up for half-a-mile. Nope, not only were the cars not backed up, there were no cars at all. I had clear sailing all the way down to Third Street. I took that right to Cedars-Sinai, parked, and because it had only taken twenty-five minutes, played on the phone until 9:45, at which time I found the office and went in. I had to fill out paperwork, then I was taken in and two different gals did various tests on my eyeballs. They were very interesting, these tests. Then I met Dr. Bose, and I told him how much I liked his speakers. I’m kidding, of course. I liked him because he had a sense of humor. He gave me the good news first – that I had absolutely no damage to anything important. He isolated the eye muscle that’s weak. He still wants me to do the blood test, which is fine, and he, unlike the other two doctors I’ve been to, thinks the CAT scan will suffice, rather than having to do the MRI. That was very good news. My next appointment with him is eight weeks away and I’ll try to get the CAT scan and blood test booked for some time in the next couple of weeks. It was a good appointment. After that, I drove back home – no traffic at all – and I ordered a sandwich, which I ate when it finally arrived.

Then we had a couple of hours of auditions and we’re definitely using quite a few people who showed up – ensemble – but they’ll have a lot to do in the show. Then I came right home. I answered e-mails, had some telephonic calls, and at six, having only had three hours of sleep, I plopped into bed and was asleep before my head ever hit the pillow. I woke up three hours and twenty minutes later. Then I began proofing the book. While I obviously know the plot and stuff, I really have no memory at all of what I actually wrote, so it’s like reading something for the first time. And I must say I did laugh out loud a few times, so that was fun. I got through chapter one, about thirty pages. I’m just fixing little grammar things, but mostly punctuation things. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up by eight o’clock and out the door by eight-forty, I’ll have a light breakfast somewhere out there, do a few errands and whatnot, come home, and continue proofing the book. Then at seven, we have callbacks, after which I’ll make final choices and we’ll hopefully be fully cast. Then I’ll come home and proof some more.

Tomorrow will be proofing, then a celebratory dinner, then more proofing. The rest of the week and the weekend will be more of the same and then I can get the book to the real proofers. Speaking of the book, we’ve chosen the cover and just making one very minor addition to it. All the cover choices were good, but this one was the eye grabber. Muse Margaret agreed wholly, and the minor addition was her excellent idea.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight and out the door by eight-forty, have a light breakfast, do a few things, proof, have callbacks, make final choices, and proof some more. Today’s topic of discussion: Who are your picks for Oscar nominations? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as the continuing saga of the eyeball continues.
