THE FISHY NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, which is odd since I ate no fish, saw no fish, spoke to no fish, and made no wish on a fish. But as sometimes happens, one must sit like so much fish and it says so in the Book of Fish, which is the religious text of the Latter Day Scallops, which one may join just for the halibut. Theirs is the one true Cod. All races, creeds, and colors are welcome within – the redfish, the whitefish, the blue fish (those are the Patriotic Fish), the yellowtail fish, blackfish (blackfish have the most sole), and more. The Book of Fish had classic illustrations by Jackson Pollock. If you attend services, you’ll hear a salmon delivered by a Monkfish from behind their Perch. Everyone will sing fish hymns, which are all written for Bass, but have easy to learn tunas. And if you Flounder in life, well, the Holy Mackerel will save you. My goodness, these are very fishy notes, aren’t they? They reek of fish. One other thing: I have no idea what the HELL I’m talking about, other than we’ve just had a fish screed – or in the Book of Fish, a fish scrod. I watched no motion picture last evening due to the lateness of the hour when I returned home from a fun dinner at Shanghai Rose with Cousin Dee Dee and Alan and long-time friend, Saul Saladow. And no, no fish was consumed. We did share green beans, chicken lo mein, duck a la duck, pork buns, scallion pancakes, pork fried rice – all very good. After dinner, I had to put gas in the motor car, which I did, and then I came home and had to answer e-mails that had arrived. Otherwise, I got about seven hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had a nice conversation with our costume designer, Shon LeBlanc, a Zoom with our set designer and I think we’re all on the same page now, then I had a much-needed haircut and now almost resemble a human person, sent the book back to the proofers for another quick go-through before it goes to the designers, I shaved, went to the mail place, and then to dinner. And now you know everything about yesterday in terms of ME.

Today, I’ll be up by ten and out the door by 11:45 to have a noon-thirty lunch with an old friend I haven’t seen for many years, so that will be fun. After lunch, I’ll check with the mail place and see if two important envelopes arrived, then I’ll pick them up if they have or I’ll go right home, finish making the rehearsal schedule, and then watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up early, and our very own Donald Feltham and I will go to the storage facility to unearth the Drat! The Cat! box o’ music, which I’m praying will be right on top or easy to find. Once that’s done, I’ll come home and separate out the charts we’ll need for our production, and then I’ll do whatever needs doing. Saturday, our MD is coming to play through a few things from the score, especially the music that’s not on our studio cast recording, which includes two ballets. I’ll have any and all the dance music recorded so our choreographer can start planning the numbers she’s doing. I’ll have a brief visit in the afternoon. Sunday will be a ME day, she of the Evil Eye wants to come on Monday, which is a bit of a pain, but I said okay, then Tuesday we evening is our meet and greet and first music rehearsal, which I am very much looking forward to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten and out the door by 11:45, have a lunch, check with the mail place and pick stuff up if stuff has arrived, come home, finish the rehearsal schedule, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite fish dishes and preparations for same? And what are your favorite sushi fishes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have survived the fishy notes.
