I HEART DEAR READERS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was fun to have a rehearsal that wasn’t a huge number with nineteen people. We did the scene that follows the opening number and it’s going to be very funny when it’s tight and up to speed. Lots of fun bits, wonderful Ira Levin dialogue, and the actors are starting to find what’s working for their characters. After we finished blocking, we ran it four or five times in a row. Then I moved on to a two-person scene and song and that went very quickly, and then it was the end of act one solo. We wrapped twenty minutes early. There are always things to discuss before leaving, too. We finally got a replacement gal – cute as a button and a very fast learner. Our dance captain came and worked with the two gents who missed rehearsal and the new gal and now they’re all up to speed, so that’s a load off. When I got home, I was hungry, so I ordered clam chowder and a baked potato from BJ’s and it arrived about thirty minutes later. I ate all the soup and about half the potato and they were very good. Prior to all that, I got six and a half hours of sleep with some of the all-time weirdo dreams. Once up, I answered e-mails, got what may end up as the only blurb for the book, but it’s a very nice blurb from a very nice guy and well-known theater person. I had one chicken breast and wing from California Chicken Café and a side of their chicken pasta salad. That was all fine. It was raining like crazy on and off, with especially hard rain in the late afternoon, but thankfully it stopped before I left for the theater. I showered, had some telephonic calls and then I moseyed on over to the theater and the rest you know and so do I.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll eat, but the main business of the day is sketching out the big ballet for act one. I know what happens in the Kabuki version but we’re not using any of that business, so I have to come up with a structure for what we’re doing and that will take a bit of figuring out. Otherwise, I need to relax and rest. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Oh, and it’s Valentine’s Day. Hard to believe that four years ago on Valentine’s Day we premiered an original online musical, Tonight’s the Night.

Tomorrow, we’re back and I believe the order of the day will be the ballet and I think our choreographer will be with us so we can do it together. We do have another option, which is Dancing with Alice, but that’s pretty complicated and we don’t get our Alice back until next Wednesday. We shall see. After rehearsal, I’ll come right home and rest and relax. Sunday is a total ME day, Monday is the same, and then we’re back at it on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday – those are all huge scenes and songs but if we get through them, we should be able to tackle the stuff that’s left on Saturday and the following Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It’s a big show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, sketch out the structure for the act one ballet, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – let’s not do the usual – let’s all say what we’re doing for Valentine’s Day. I’ll start – nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishing everyone a very happy Valentine’s Day with lots of hearts.
