TALKING BACK AT THE TALKBACK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I must get up at eight and be out the door by eight-thirty to be on my way to my eye doctor appointment. So, let’s just dive right in, shall we? Let’s put on our Speedo bathing outfits and dive right the HELL in, shall we? No delays, no roadblocks, no gilt wrapping, no fancy frippery, just all the news that’s fit to print sans flourishes and sidecars and tangents. We had our first matinee yesterday – almost sold-out house – fun audience and the performance went very well save for a light that burned out, leaving a nice dark hole where there should have been light. Not horrible but shouldn’t happen in a newly lit show. So, it will obviously have to be replaced by Friday. After the performance, there was a talkback, and I always enjoy those. Lots of lovely comments after the show. Prior to the matinee, I got six hours of sleep. After the talkback, I stopped at Gelson’s and got some chicken to make faux chicken stroganoff. I came home and made it and it was good, but not as good as usual – don’t know why, really. Then I caught up on a bunch of stuff, sat on my couch like so much fish looking for a motion picture, found one, but it was too late to start watching it. And now, as I write these here notes in a hurry, I am listening to some Beethoven thing I’ve never heard of – conducted by Eugene Ormandy with an array of excellent singers, including Judith Raskin. It’s called Christ on the Mount of the Olives. This was only its fourth recording. It’s all very well done, but as you know by now, a little Beethoven goes a long way with the likes of me. If that makes me a Phyllis Stein, so be it. And that was really about it for the day and evening.

Today, I’ll be up by eight and out the door by eight-thirty to head over the hill to my 9:45 appointment with my eye doctor at Cedars. I’m hoping he can now do the surgeon referral and I can finally have this thing corrected and be back to normal or at least next to normal. I have no idea how long the appointment will be but when it’s done, I’ll head right back over the hill. I’ll stop at the mail place and see if there’s anything there and if there is I’ll pick it up, then I’ll stop and get something for food, come home, eat, and then I really need at least a couple of ME days. I have a few things that must be done and I’m hoping the book order will ship sooner than later so I can get everyone their books and little extra thing. Then I’ll definitely watch a motion picture in the evening.

The rest of the week is more of the same, perhaps a meeting or meal, and then we resume performances on Friday. Not sure I’ll see all three – depends on what else is happening – but I’ll definitely be there Friday night to make sure the show is still sharp.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight and out the door by eight-thirty, have an eye doctor appointment, stop by the mail place, eat, and then begin having one of several ME days. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What kind of cakes (not pies) are your favorite? What was the first kind of cake you ever had – probably birthday cakes for most of us – and do you find that bakeries of today are as good as those of your childhood? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a good matinee and a fun talkback.
