Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Mr. Ormandy’s Brahms symphony cycle – symphony number one is playing at the moment. I have heaven-knows how many Brahms cycles and I love most of them. I have heard a few that aren’t to my liking, but most of my favorite conductors have done the four symphonies and they all are top-notch. Of course, I’ve heard the Ormandy cycle before, but I’d really forgotten just how beautiful it is – no fuss, no muss – straight ahead playing of the gorgeous Brahms music by one of the greatest orchestras ever at their peak. Also, I happen to think the Brahms first is one of the great first symphonies – so many beautiful themes – and as you know, I am not much of a fan of a lot of the older music. But Brahms, for my money, was very forward thinking and was one of those who led the way into the music I grew up loving. So, I know I’m in for some great listening going through the four symphonies. But enough about Brahms. It is late and I must get these here notes written and posted before all HELL breaks loose and the world runs amok, like an out-of-control wombat. And if you’ve ever seen an out-of-control wombat you know exactly whereof I speak. But enough about wombats (stabmow, spelled backwards). Last night, we began our second to last week of performances. I really wasn’t sure I’d stay – half a house – but I thought I’d not sit in my usual last row seat, so I sat in the fourth row, just for fun. Sitting up that close with an audience is a whole different ball of potatoes. It’s much more involving up close, and I had a lot of fun. I could tell the audience was enjoying it, despite not being that vocal. So, I decided to leave at intermission – only, about ten minutes in they came alive, and we were getting nice laughs and hefty mitts for the numbers. And since I was enjoying seeing it from the fourth row, I stayed. I’m glad I did, because it really was an excellent performance. I didn’t know anyone in the audience save for the lady who did our wigs and a former Group Rep actor. After the show, several of us went to the Coral Café. Since I’d had Pad Thai for food, I wasn’t going to eat much, but in the end I had a patty melt and fries – very good, but too much food for the likes of me. We all had fun and then I came right home, making great time due to hitting nothing but green lights the entire way, which is very unusual. Earlier, I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had two telephonic conversations, ate Pad Thai, dozed off for a bit, shaved and showered, and them moseyed on over to the theater. The rest you know.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll maybe have a tiny snack, then I’ll go to the theater and maybe stay for the show. I do think I know some folks who are coming, and I know it’s a good-sized house. And I know some of us will go out afterwards. Tomorrow, dear reader Jeanne is coming to see the show, so we’ll probably sit together unless we’re sold out. And I know a few others coming to see the show. Then next week we’ll be sorely in need of a modern major miracle or there will be HELL toupee.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, have a tiny snack, go to the theater, go out after and then come home. Today’s topic of discussion: What was the first pet you ever had? When did you get it? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall dream Brahmsian dreams of an out-of-control wombat.
