SPOILER ALERT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’ve had my clam chowder and side Caesar salad, I’ve watched two motion pictures, I’ve dozed on and off and again had the weirdest dreams whilst doing so, and therefore it is time to write these here notes. That said, there is little to write about since I’ve already given it all away in the first sentence and without a spoiler alert. I forgot the damn spoiler alert and now I have to repeat things, like I’ve never done THAT before. Well, let us rewind to my arising at eleven o’clock after a bit more than – SPOILER ALERT – eight hours of sleep. Once up – SPOILER ALERT – I answered a ton of e-mails and the usual irritating text, then I ordered food from – SPOILER ALERT – Maria’s Kitchen – penne pasta in pink sauce with sausage. It arrived twenty minutes later and was faboo (oobaf, splled backwards) – best it’s ever been, and the sausage works much better than the meatball I usually get. Then the computer was about to do its ubiquitous every two weeks freeze, so I just shut it down and restarted and after ten minutes, all was well and well was all. These here notes are riveting. I am riveted, I tell you, just like Rosie the Riveter, for you WWII history nuts. Although there is much debate whether Rosie the Riveter was actually based on a person, it was a character, a cultural icon, and the song Rosie the Riveter was a big hit. There was even a low-budget musical film called Rosie the Riveter. Why the HELL I’m going into such arcana is anyone’s guess. But we’ve done it and we can’t look back. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched the second Dr. Mabuse movie, The Invisible Dr. Mabuse. This one was very enjoyable and very well directed by Harald Reinl. In style, it was very much like the Reinl Edgar Wallace series. These are perfect movies to doze off every now and then and frequently my two-minute dreams have more interesting plots. After that, I watched the third sequel, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, also fun and the only one of the sequels I’d seen before. It’s a remake of the Fritz Lang film from 1932, if memory serves. Then I checked out a bit of Scotland Yard Hunts Dr. Mabuse, which is inexplicably in the old Academy ratio of 1.37. As is the final sequel, The Death Ray of Dr. Mabuse. Why? All the other films in the set are 1.66 and all are supposedly new 2K transfers from original film elements. Of course, the latter can mean many  things but what it can’t mean is original negatives, or they’d say that. I suspect these are still generations from the camera negatives, and the ones in 1.37 may be from TV negatives – but they should absolutely be 1.66 like the others. SPOILER ALERT – Dr. Mabuse is evil.

I dozed during the second movie, too. I think I have a soporific couch. After that, I watched some irritating YouTube videos, had my soup and salad for my evening snack, and here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll relax, then shave and shower, stop at the mail place and see if anything’s there, and then I’ll mosey on over to the theater, get the company to warm up and back into show mode, see the show, then go out for food afterwards with Barry and Cindy Pearl.

Tomorrow, I’ll relax during the day, then attend the evening show, although I’m now thinking I may not – we’ll see how I’m feeling. Sunday, we’re now close to sold out, so I aways enjoy Sunday matinee audiences.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, relax, shave and shower, stop at the mail place, get the cast warmed up and in show mode, see the show, eat, and then come home. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, more Ormandy. Blu-ray, more Dr. Mabuse. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had so many SPOILER ALERTS in these here notes.
