Well, dear readers, I do not have much to add to what has already been said. Wait a minute – nothing’s been said, so I better damn well add something to nothing or will have nothing with no something and then chaos will ensue, and we’ll all become flat-earthers. Meanwhile, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to more Henry Mancini – his almost unknown score to Me, Natalie, which is actually one of my favorite Mancini scores – haunting, beautiful, gorgeous, beguiling melodies. I did manage to watch one motion picture last evening, another Spanish film or maybe it was an Argentinian film, entitled 7 Deaths. I think it’s supposed to be a thriller. It has a good leading lady but it’s too long and due to the subtitles being off by about fifteen seconds, you never know who’s saying what and it’s just too confusing and it has a very unsatisfying ending. Direction was certainly competent, and it had a decent score by Bernardo Castro, his first feature film. I think I started to watch something else but can’t remember what it was. Prior to that, I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, then ordered a pizza from a highly thought of jernt in Toluca Lake. It arrived about forty minutes later and was terrible, I thought. There was just something off about it and I ate only three of its eight pieces and trashed the rest. After the movie, I made a little pasta with red sauce because I was hungry and that’s all that was here. I also am in the middle of reading someone’s thesis about the two scores to Frenzy. Way too pedantic and academic for me, and shockingly filled with awful misspellings and some factual errors. But the stuff about Mancini’s score is interesting. Shockingly, that was pretty much it. I had zero telephonic conversations, never left the home environment, watched some YouTube stuff – I’ve been saving stuff to watch – the newish MET performance of Madame Butterfly and a few other things like that. I don’t think I did any actual work, which is fine. Waiting to hear back from the pianist I want for the kid’s show – hoping he’s available – and I did take a nice long shower. And there you have it.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’m definitely going out for a meal somewhere – either alone or with someone if I can find someone who wants to have a nice dinner – otherwise, I’ll just wander around the home environment aimlessly, if there’s something that needs doing I’ll do it, I’ll call the mail place and see if anything’s there and if there is I’ll go get it, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary of the start of filming The First Nudie Musical. What are the odds that the anniversary would also fall on a Monday fifty years on? Maybe I’ll sing Dancing Dildos to celebrate. It’s also Cinco de Mayo, the day we celebrate mayonnaise. Otherwise, it’s a busy week ahead with choosing songs for the young people show, some meetings and meals, hopefully getting together with Marshall Harvey for a little something I need done, and writing an e-mail to the Ira Levin Estate, the son we made the deal with. I have found his behavior appalling and he’s not offering a reason for it. But I’m going to get it off my chest – I’m sure he’ll be all over seeing the New York thing, but he should have seen our production – it wasn’t some rush job rehearsed in a week or two – but he didn’t. Nor did he wish us a happy opening and a happy closing, nor did he acknowledge how great the reviews, which I stopped sending him after having no response. I think his father would have been appalled at such behavior, but the bottom line is we did a nice production with a great cast and band, and I kept my long-time promise to do it. I will never ever understand people.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, go out for a meal somewhere, either alone or with someone, do whatever needs doing, see if there’s mail, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have added something to nothing, which has resulted in something rather than nothing.
