FEELING MY OATS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am feeling my oats today. I don’t really know why I’m feeling my oats today, as my oats didn’t really do anything to warrant my feeling them, but feeling my oats I am and my oats are rather titillated by it, frankly or even georgely. Well, we’re off to a fine start, aren’t we? I’m just feeling weirdly chipper as I write these notes – I’m feeling weirdly elated as I write these notes. I’m feeling as if I’m one of the characters in Valley of the Dolls – I feel like I’m on dolls, baby, and yet I’ve never had a doll in my life. I’m having a natural high for reasons unbeknownst to me. I’d like those reasons to be knownst to me and yet they are unbeknownst to me, hence I am in the dark as to why I’m feeling my oats, feeling weirdly chipper, feeling weirdly elated, feeling like I’ve taken one too many dolls, baby. You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about, don’t keep it a secret – let us all in on it. In any case, I’m feeling rather up as I write these here notes. Speaking of up, I had a lovelier than lovely day yesterday, what with a really fun musical theater workshop (MTW) class (doing a quick little history lesson of landmark musical from Showboat up to the present, and then discussing different types of songs from musicals), and then getting all my shipping done, and then finding that our set came through almost unscathed, and then quickly doing the little fix for Disney, and then coming home and relaxing, taking a trip to the Jacuzzi and watching a film on DVD. The only negative yesterday was my persistent problems with UPS. They supposedly had my package on the truck for delivery and yet they did not deliver the package. Three messages to the local center here went unanswered, which is not acceptable to the upper management at UPS and which will be dealt with severely this morning (I’m supposed to receive a call and an apology from the local center who dropped the ball) – that on top of the carrier lying and saying he attempted to deliver the package at six, and finding he didn’t have it on the truck, when the real fact is he never came back to my mail place after his initial delivery, well, I think you can see how frustrating and disgusting it was. I even called amazon to see if they wanted to try and get an answer out of UPS – as always, they were lovely and said they’d simply overnight me a new package if it didn’t arrive today. It’s now scheduled to be delivered today, but I’m telling them that an amorphous today isn’t good enough or acceptable and that it must be first thing this morning, even if it means a special trip to the mail place. We’ll see what they have to say. Should they not call, I have the name of the supervisor I spoke to, who basically said if they didn’t call me by ten she would do what she needed to to cause them as much grief as she could. I liked that. So, I’ll keep you posted.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Bigger Than Life, starring Mr. James Mason, Miss Barbara Rush, and a young Mr. Walter Matthau. It’s a story of a man who gets fits of extreme pain, and is diagnosed with a rare (for the time) disease. His only hope is a new wonder drug called Cortisone. He takes it, then begins abusing it and taking much more than he’s supposed to. He starts feeling his oats, he starts feeling weirdly chipper and weirdly elated, and he gets worse and worse until he’s completely psychotic and ready to kill his wife and child. It’s melodramatic, to be sure, but it’s expertly played and expertly directed by Mr. Nicholas Ray in beautifully framed Cinemascope and color. The DVD is from France and is region 2 (why these films aren’t out in region 1 is anyone’s guess), and the transfer is flawless and gorgeous. Wait a minute – perhaps this film is why I’m feeling my oats and feeling weirdly chipper and weirdly elated – perhaps it was an empathetic reaction. Hopefully, I won’t become psychotic or anything, but if I have a pair of scissors in my hand, don’t come near me.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, whilst we all feel our collective oats.

Have I mentioned that I’m feeling my oats and that my oats are feeling weirdly chipper and weirdly elated? Today is going to be a heavy writing day, and I’m also going to print out the three most recent short stories so that I can give them to my muse, Margaret, so she can say yay or nay or give whatever comments she has. I have a few errands to do, but most of the day will be spent staring at the screen of my laptop and writing words, words, and more words.

I have so many movies to catch up on it’s not even funny. I’ve got stacks of DVDs here, so maybe I can watch a DVD or three tonight and make the stacks a little more manageable.

I’m also trying to get our two new Kritzerland titles up for preorder by next Monday. The discs will be ready for shipping in about four weeks, but, as I’ve said before, preorders are our bread and butter and how we survive, so I’m hoping that those who are interested in the two new titles will indeed preorder them. We will, of course, have complete artwork, track titles, and sound clips up at the Kritzerland website, and maybe even some video, if I can figure out how to get it to our web designer. Stay tuned.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, do errands, print short stories, deliver short stories, pick up the errant and truant UPS package, and eat reasonable foodstuffs. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we? And, if you feel like it, tell us about your most frustrating experiences with UPS, Fed Ex or the USPS.
