Well, dear readers, I think it’s Saturday. That’s my best guess. And it’s my best guess only because I have a vague memory that yesterday was Friday, thanks to these here notes and it being It’s Friday day. I can tell you I was happy to hear that restaurants can open up for dining in with certain restrictions and protocols in place. I think most restaurants will have to gear up for it – re-hiring, making sure everyone knows what’s what and figuring out the seating issues. Of course, this news was greeted by the doom and gloom brigade exactly as you’d think it would be, with immediate postings of “Too soon” and “Here comes the second wave” or “Just wait” – you know, all that stuff, because ten weeks of being locked up isn’t enough. Well, everyone has a choice and if they’re not comfortable dining in a restaurant, stay home, order in, but do NOT shame people who wish to do it and follow the protocols. I can only tell you that as my usual haunts open, I will be there to support them and happily dine in and enjoy my meal without any fear, panic, or hysteria. I’m hoping next week to do that. Meanwhile, having watched a motion picture entitled The Three Faces of Eve, I’ve decided that I have multiple personalities. There is, of course, me, BK. Then there’s some singer idiot that takes over, but he doesn’t show up much, so that’s good. And then there’s the Facebook personality that goes after people when they post fake or stupid stuff. We call this malady, The Three Faces of BK. I hope someone will make a motion picture about it, because it surely will result in an Oscar for whoever plays me. What’s really fun is when all three personalities show up at once and sing famous trios, like Sing for Your Supper and You Could Drive a Person Crazy. At this time, I no longer have a clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about.
Yesterday was another wacko day in certain ways. I fell asleep around three-thirty, woke up at four-thirty, took a Pepcid, went back to bed at five-thirty and slept until the doorbell rang at ten-thirty – Grant, telling me it was tree trimming day and could I move my motor car. So, I did that. I’d slept six hours by that point but it sure didn’t feel like it. Then I did stuff on the computer until noon o’clock, mostly to do with the Kritzerland show, then I went back to bed and slept another two hours.
After that, I ascertained there was, once again, no mail or packages. I drove to Jerry’s Deli and got four slices of lox and some cream cheese, came home, and had two bagels with lox and cream cheese and they were quite tasty. I also had some chocolate pudding. Then it was more Kritzerland show stuff. Doing the directing of these shows remotely is a challenge. It’s so simple when I’m in the room with people, but ultimately, we get it done. I do lots of virtual handholding and cheerleading, but so far it’s looking like the show will be very good. By that time, the day was pretty much done, so I sat on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Three Faces of Eve. I saw it when it came out, but I was ten and so didn’t really understand it all that well, but I knew that Joanne Woodward gave a great performance. I saw it at my beloved Stadium Theater. I bought it when it came out on DVD and never watched it, and then got the Blu-ray and when I pulled it off the shelf the other day was amazed it was still in its shrink wrap. It’s not a great movie but Joanne Woodward really deserved her Oscar. Nunnally Johnson was a very good writer but a very mediocre director and even though the film is pretty short at ninety-one minutes it seems longer. Lee J. Cobb is very good as the understanding psychiatrist, save for his ever-present cigar, which I think he smoked in every movie he ever made. David Wayne as Eve’s husband is not so hot. He was great onstage, but just okay on film, better in later years. I thought the score was quite nice – Robert Emmett Dolan. The named seemed familiar – he was quite an interesting fellow. He worked on a lot of musicals, did several film scores, wrote a couple of Broadway musicals (as composer), including the Bert Lahr flop, Foxy, and he was also a conductor – he conducted the Broadway musical Coco. Anyway, I enjoyed it, especially Miss Woodward.
After that, I did more work on the Kritzerland show, listened to music, and relaxed. I had one more bagel, lox, and cream cheese after the movie, and that was good.
Today, I’ll really try to get a good night’s sleep. Once up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully at least pick up an important envelope or two, I’ll eat (not sure what), do Kritzerland show stuff, and then watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more of the same, and then we begin the busy lead-up to the June 7 Kritzerland, including the three Facebook Live tests, which I hope you’ll all watch. I’ll have the times and links in Monday’s notes. Those will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I think she of the Evil Eye will come on either Friday or Saturday for the first time since March 14. It’s not terrible here, but she will have to attend to all the dust and floors and stuff. And then we do the Kritzerland show and I’ll start planning the July show.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get a really good night’s sleep, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up some important envelopes, eat, do Kritzerland show stuff, and watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What performances on film do you think should have won an Oscar over who did win? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where all three of my personalities will unite to sing the Peter, Paul, and Mary songbook.
