I HAVE SKIN IN THIS GAME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera, The Saint of Bleeker Street – very tuneful and interesting. I really enjoy Mr. Menotti’s work and to think he was the partner of one of my favorite composers, Samuel Barber – it must have been fun to sup in that house. Prior to that, I watched a two-hour documentary entitled Skin, about nudity in movies. It begins at the turn of the century and goes right up to now. It’s fun in its way, but I’m sorry, filmmakers, I’m not sure how you talk about nudity in the 1970s and NOT mention The First Nudie Musical. What a fail. Oh, they mention the movie that came after us, Alice in Wonderland the soft and hardcore versions, but we were first, and we were a mainstream film. We opened the door and pushed the envelope for many movies that followed. Perhaps they didn’t know who to contact for clips although I’m not hard to find. Perhaps the director is just not knowledgeable enough to know the film, but David del Valle, one of the talking heads, certainly knows it. Interestingly, the distributor of the documentary is Quiver, who is now distributing our film. Part of me would like to drop a little missive to the director, but why bother? It’s not a great documentary, but I enjoyed it except for ignoring us.

Yesterday was a productive day, I suppose. I got about five hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, watched the final arguments in the Depp/Heard trial – well, I watched Depp’s lawyers and skimmed through Heard’s because they make my skin crawl and they behaved reprehensibly when Depp’s lawyers were doing the summation to the jury – like little high school children.

Then I chose the audio samples for the three releases and got those where they needed to go. I had silly food for my one meal – Jack in the Box – their Weird Tacos, a couple of their egg rolls, and a Breakfast Jack. It was okay. I then sketched out the two put-togethers for the Kritzerland show, so I’ll go over that with our MD on the phone today at some point. Then I made the mistake of looking in the mirror and frankly I don’t even know who I’m looking at anymore. I must lose thirty pound and lose it now. I hate the way I look, and I don’t feel good at this weight. So, one meal a day and cutting out all sweets and fried foods for a while. I can do pasta in moderation and sandwiches and stuff and that’s going to be it for a while. Fish and chicken and salads, too. I have to take the proverbial bull by the proverbial horns and there is no time like the present to do so.

After the movie, I got everything uploaded to Dropbox for mastering. So, hopefully Doug won’t sit on this too long – sooner is better to announce, but Monday is the latest. There will be too much merde to deal with if it’s later than Monday. I’m hoping maybe prior to that, but we shall see.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, but mostly I’ll relax, rest my voice, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, so that will be fun. Otherwise, if we’re not live with our titles then I’ll have to become relentless and anyone who has seen me be relentless realizes it’s easier to just do the thing. Monday is a holiday day, Tuesday is our second rehearsal, Thursday is our stumble-through, and then Friday is sound check and show. I have to check and see how many reservations we have.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, mostly relax and rest my voice, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the first film you saw in which there was nudity? What is the most shocking nude scene you’ve seen, and which movies featuring a lot of nudity do you enjoy? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, disappointed that the documentary Skin did not include a true cult film that had more nudity than most films of the 1970s – of course, I have skin in that game.
