THE GREAT CLARITIN-D SHORTAGE MYSTERY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a really fun stumble-through – only a couple of lyric flubs, including one by yours truly, but the couple of flubs were covered nicely. Show order worked great, I gave some tiny notes, and that was that. After that, I ordered a chicken breast and wing and the small side of chicken pasta salad from California Chicken Café and that came about thirty minutes later. It was pretty good. Then I went to CVS again and bought their generic Claritin-D because there is no Claritin-D anywhere in Los Angeles or the Valley. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, Claritin-D is in short supply or no supply. I find that decidedly odd – and it’s been that way, according to CVS, for about two months. Why on Earth would there be a shortage of Claritin-D but not the generic brand, which, according to CVS, is exactly the same? I also bought some Pepcids and a few snacks – Nutter Butter, small pack of just a few cookies and a couple of other things. I came home, did some work on the computer, read through the commentary, making minor adjustments and fixing mistakes, and then I printed that out. So, I have everything ready for tonight’s show. I’m told that we have over fifty now, and I’m hoping we go up to at least sixty, which is certainly possible. The whole reservation thing was nearly a disaster because no one informed me that they now allow patrons to choose their own tables and chairs. I always take the front row for my people, but they’d already sold most of it – in fact, only one seat was open and luckily it was at my usual table and my seatmate was Adryan Russ, so that averted that disaster. But they know now to just hold that first row for me.

Yesterday was some kind of day. I got up at nine-thirty after six-and-a-half hours of sleep. I answered e-mails and did stuff but went back to bed and slept until one – I believe I got a little over eight hours of sleep. Once back up, I caught up on stuff, then got ready for the stumble-through. Dear me, yesterday didn’t even take up one page of these here notes. That may be a first. Then again, that may be a second. I know not which. Oh, and here was a surprising thing I learned from searching C.C. Brown’s on newspapers.com. This goes in the “Who Knew” department. I wish I had the exact address of where it was. In 1968, John Schumacher opened a second branch of C.C. Brown’s in Sherman Oaks, near Ventura and Van Nuys Blvd. I do believe there once was a Wil Wright’s around there, so maybe it was in that location. Yes, Wil Wright’s was on the northwest corner of Ventura and Van Nuys (now a gas station). It must have not lasted very long and since I can find no record of its existence anywhere, maybe it never happened at all. Here’s the article I found.

Isn’t that interesting? Ah, just EAST of Van Nuys so not where Wil Wright’s was. Most likely on the south side of the street.

Today, I’ll be up by noon at the very latest, I’ll do whatever needs doing, but mostly I’ll relax and rest my voice. Then I’ll shave and shower and get ready and around four-thirty I’ll mosey on over to Vitello’s for our sound check at five. That will go until six-fifteen, and then the doors open at six-thirty. I’ll have my usual small Caesar salad for food. Then we do our show at eight. Afterwards, some of us will go downstairs for a proper meal, which we’ll eat properly. I will, of course, have a full report for you.

Tomorrow, I have to be up early, for she of the Evil Eye will be coming and I’ll have to leave until noon. Then I can relax, and then I’ll go see The Desperate Hours at the Group Rep. Sunday is a total ME day, save for starting to plan the Indiegogo campaign that I must do so I can release this large backlog of titles plus pay for the Kritzerland shows, which I simply cannot personally subsidize anymore. Then next week is very busy, casting a two-night staged reading and getting ready to do that very thing, plus going through the screenplay with David Wechter and deleting all the suggested cuts and making sure all the additions we’ve done work. I’m thinking we’ll now lost twenty to twenty-five pages, but I’ll hope for more. At least, then we’ll be in the ballpark, page-wise.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by noon, do whatever needs doing, relax and rest my voice, shave and shower and get ready, mosey on over to Vitello’s, have a sound check, and then we do our show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, nothing. Blu-ray, nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that the great Claritin-D shortage mystery is solved soon.
