A DAY WITHOUT NAUSEA

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, at this moment in time I am not nauseous, so that is a step in the right direction. Meanwhile, I didn’t quite finish Mr. Manuel de Falls’s The Three-Cornered Hat last night, so that’s finishing up now. Got to comment again on the superb stereo sound from 1961 courtesy Decca Records. Once upon a time, I, BK, did the Mexican Hat Dance – I suppose that wouldn’t go over too well today, but it was a celebration of Cinco de Mayo in grammar school, and I’ll never find anything wrong with celebrating another culture and if that rankles someone then that rankles someone. And in today’s culture, we simply must be rankled on a daily basis, we must have our daily dose of outrage about something, it simply must be. And if that makes people feel they’re living a good life then all power to them. I find it tiresome to be outraged about some new thing every day. And that’s about how long the outrage lasts because they’re on to the next outrage hours later. That is the world in which we currently live. People will tire of it – they always do, moving on to the next “thing.” I did try to watch a movie last night, something entitled Assimilate, a low-rent rip-off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers – very amateurish and I stopped after about fifty minutes. It’s still very hot here in Los Angeles – they’ve been saying it will cool down for three weeks. In fact, I must cool down the house right now.

Yesterday was all right. I got about seven hours of sleep, got up, answered many e-mails, had a nice telephonic conversation with Ilene Graff and figured out what she’ll be singing at the Kritzerland show, then I moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up a couple of packages, including more Pepcid, which keeps going up in price. Then I came right home and ordered a BLTA from Marmalade, a nearby eatery. I figured that was safe – and a few fries with it. That arrived pretty quickly, and it was indeed good and save and actually very small. The fries were very good, too. I looked at some photos of potential locations for the web series, chose more songs, and got the Darling Daughter to send me the Indiegogo perks breakdown as a Word document, which is just easier for me to deal with. Then I attempted to watch the movie and now Miss Leontyne Price is singing various arias from various operas. She’s something else and again, the sound, RCA Living Stereo is absolutely superb. This is also a hybrid SACD. The recordings were done in 1959 and 1960. They don’t do better today with all their fancy-shmancy technology.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven and I have a 1:00 lunch with our line producer and a PR person at some Mexican jernt I’ve never heard of. But their menu looks very traditional, so I have hope that it will be good. After that, I’ll come right home and hopefully choose the last of the songs – not that many to go now. And I’ll print out the perks document and begin getting the CDs ready to ship. Then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, someone’s coming over to help pull the stuff to ship and put Post-Its with addresses on those items. It will be nice to have some help. Saturday, she of the Evil Eye will be here so you know how that goes. Then I’ll try to have a ME day and the same goes for Sunday. Then next week will all be casting the rest of the web series as we’ll be only three weeks away from shooting and shipping perks.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, have a lunch meeting during which I’ll eat lunch, choose the last of the red-hot songs, print out the perks document and begin to get everything ready, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Who are your favorite female opera divas? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have basically had a day without nausea.
