THE GET-TOGETHER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, first things first and second thing second: Our little haineshisway.com gathering at Joe Allen was a tonic and grand fun. So nice to see Vixmom and elmore and ChasSmith and the surprise attendance of William F. Orr. I was a little too exhausted from a long day of shooting to be much fun, but still the conversation was delightful, dish was dished, and we were there for about two hours. The Joe Allen experience isn’t quite what it used to be. First example – no bread and butter on the table ever. Second, many favorite dishes are gone with the wind. Third, what used to be a very large Caesar salad is now medium-sized but still excellent. And the hot fudge pudding cake that Vixmom and ChasSmith had is half the size it used to be and is now served in a little bowl kind of thing. Didn’t know a single person in the jernt outside of our little group. It was doing pretty good business for a Sunday nacht. I came right home afterwards, caught up on stuff, and then began writing these here notes.

Prior to the get-together, I got about six hours of sleep, shaved and showered and then we had our second day of shooting audition sequences at Studios 353. We got everything we needed and even a little extra bit I wrote. Sami had her most difficult scene, which I know she was afraid of – but I shot it in such a way that we just kept going section by section until it was right and she nailed it pretty damn good. We had very good actors as the creatives behind the table.

Lunch was pizza – and pizza that was classic NYC pizza. I had only two slices, knowing dinner was coming soon. Then we shot the two waiting room scenes that precede the audition scenes and we wrapped thirty minutes ahead of schedule. I had a little time to kill, so I walked around Times Square – it’s just awful there now. Then it was Joe Allen and the rest you know. Elmore posted a photograph from Joe Allen. I didn’t get sent any photos from today so have nothing to post in that regard.

Today, I’ll be up at eight, I’ll shave and shower, and then our call time is 9:30 at the second club. It’s a slightly complicated day, as we have to be out by 3:30, but hopefully we’ll get everything done, especially the two songs. If we begin those by one o’clock, I think we’ll be okay. After we wrap our last day of NYC shooting on season one we’ll go have a celebratory meal during which we’ll celebrate and have a meal, not necessarily in that order. Then I’ll come back here and pack.

Tomorrow, we’ll be on our way to the airport at noon o’clock. Our flight is at four but we want to leave a lot of time and then we can have a little snack or food somewhere. And then we shall be on our way back home. Please send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for good weather and not issues and a safe flight home. Once home, I have so much to catch up on – a huge number of things which need attending to, especially all the orders that have come in since I’ve been in NYC. I’ll have to go to the mail place to hopefully pick up two important envelopes, do banking, get bills paid, and hopefully get a few nights of really good sleep. I’ll work with Richard Allen on some charts that need finalizing so I can get them to our cast for our LA shoot, I’ll get together with editor Marshall Harvey to explain stuff and get him the hard drive with all the footage from all eight NYC episodes, and I’ll do all the other stuff that needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up at eight, shave and shower, shoot at a club until three-thirty and then have a celebratory meal, and then come back and pack. Today’s topic of discussion: Who were your favorite vocal groups when you were growing up? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a nice day of shooting and a really fun get-together.
