BK REVISITED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this month is flying by, like a gazelle in a rumble seat. Honestly, it has, and on top of that, it’s a short month. I hate when that happens. Otherwise, I finished the endless documentary McMillions – an interesting story stretched out for six hours, which is three hours too much. So, we get horribly paced episodes with lots of shots of buildings and pavement and shoes and flags and these shots are not quick, they just hang there like so much fish and then we also get endless backstories about people, none of which are germane to the story being told and none of which are interesting. That alone could take ten minutes out of every episode. And my Firestick is behaving very strangely and won’t load stuff properly and then suddenly it will. Very irritating. I also watched the first twenty minutes of Twilight Zone – The Movie, which I haven’t seen in thirty years, probably. The opening bit goes on too long but is cute – Albert Brooks and Dan Ackroyd, and the first episode isn’t great – it’s okay, and it’s the only segment that’s not based on an actual episode. Vic Morrow stars as an unhappy bigot. I’m in the middle of the second segment, which is the worst of the lot – Kick the Can, and Spielberg at his absolute worst. Looking forward to the final two segments. The score by Jerry Goldsmith is very good. I remember at the time of the film’s release that most were disappointed in most of it, but the final segment with John Lithgow was justly praised as the best of the bunch. It’s also surprising how bad the film looks, at least the ancient transfer they’re streaming on HBO-MAX.

Yesterday was certainly a day and that’s about all one can say about it. I had a very rough night, was up after two hours of sleep then finally got back to bed around six and slept six hours, but it sure didn’t feel like a total of eight hours. Once up, I answered e-mails, tried to solve a problem with one song in one of the episodes but that hasn’t quite been solved yet but will be today, one way or another, and then we announced our next CD release – here’s the cover.

That will be the last of the Bagley series, unless I somehow secure the rights to do Kenward Elmslie Revisited – those rights reverted back to Mr. Elmslie, who passed away a year or so ago. I have a nice letter or three from Kenward, who gave us permission to include a couple of songs from his Revisited CD, and he may have given us permission to do more, in which case I would release it. After announcing, I went to Taco Bell and brought home a few items, which I ate and which were fine. Much later, I had a tiny slice of chocolate moose cake. I had some telephonic calls, and then I sat down and watched the remaining episodes of the documentary.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat, then I may or may not have to go to Marshall Harvey’s abode to solve the problem we’re having, which we both know is solvable, we just haven’t had the right solution yet but hopefully by morning the solution we’ll arrive and all will be well and well will be all. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye will come and I’ll go have an early breakfast somewhere. Once back, I’ll finish choosing songs, continue searching for a pianist, and then I can relax, and Sunday is more of the same.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, maybe go to Marshall Harvey’s abode, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Twilight Zone episodes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have announced what will most likely be the final Revisited album.
