Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry, for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and all too soon I will have to be elsewhere. As I write these here notes in a hurry, I’m listening to the recently late Astrud Gilberto, in particular her album Windy, which is my favorite for many reasons, one of which is that I own the original painting of Miss Gilberto by Howard Terpning that adorns the album’s cover. Terpning, for those who don’t know the name, was a very famous movie poster artist, who did the posters for many iconic films, little movies like The Sound of Music, Lawrence of Arabia, Birdman of Alcatraz, The Sand Pebbles, 55 Days at Peking, and many others. Here is that very painting.
I did manage to watch a short motion picture on Freevee with endless advertisements interrupting it every fifteen minutes. It’s yet another movie about a genetically engineered being called Morgan – that’s the name of the movie, too – who has had an incident and a violent one at that. A fixer from the corporation that paid for the creation is sent to ascertain whether Morgan should be put down or not. It’s an interesting movie for a while and the cast is good, including Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy (as Morgan), Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brian Cox. Halfway through, Paul Giamatti shows up as a scientist who’ll ascertain whether something has gone wrong with Morgan. After pushing Morgan psychologically, he finds out just how wrong something has gone. I went with it until then. At that point, every character starts behaving so stupidly that you want to just hurl your shoe at the screen. Terrible dialogue abounds, and even though it runs onely about 87 minutes without the end credits, it’s paced so poorly and is so dank and dour throughout that it seems much longer. The big “twist” can be seen coming almost from the start. It was directed by Luke Scott, son of Ridley, who is not his father, talent-wise. The movie was a huge bomb.
Yesterday was fine. I got seven hours of sleep, answered e-mails, did a quick Gelson’s run and got some lox, then ordered bagels and cream cheese from Western Bagel. Waiting for it to arrive, I began futzing and finessing, and there was a LOT to do and it took over two hours to do it. Then I had a couple of lox sandwiches – very good. Then I finally began writing new pages, doing about four. I took a break, then did another five.
After another break, I did another five, for a total of fourteen. I may end up shortening one little sequence – we’ll see how I like it when I begin futzing and finessing today. Then I watched the movie, and now here I am, a little late to the partay, but I’ll post these here notes as soon as I finish them, which should be any minute now.
Today, I’ll be up by eight, I’ll take a quick shower, then as soon as she of the Evil Eye arrives, I’ll go meet Robert Yacko for a light breakfast. After that, I’ll do stuff, go to the mail place and hope for an early arrival of two important envelopes, then I’ll come home, futz and finesse, then write new pages, at least eight to ten. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more writing and that should give me at least seventy pages to send to Muse Margaret, but it cold be closer to eighty or ninety. Then next week is a lot of writing, a couple of meetings and meals, and then more writing. I suspect I have another two weeks of writing before I get close to the end, but we’ll see.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight, take a quick shower, have a light breakfast, do stuff, go to the mail place, futz and finesse, write new pages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite movies featuring robots or artificial beings and that kind of thing. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy listening to Astrud Gilberto and Windy.
