POST-MIDNIGHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is midnight. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is midnight. And I am just starting to write these here notes. I don’t know why that is, really. I cannot point to anything that would have caused me to begin writing these here notes at midnight, and yet here I am, writing these here notes at midnight. Earlier, I think I tried to watch several things, none of which I liked. I did doze off for an hour. I listened to not a single note of music. Well, let’s just talk about what I remember, shall we? I remember getting up at seven-thirty after about six hours of sleep. I remember she of the Evil Eye arriving and I remember me moseying on over to Art’s Deli for breakfast. Haven’t been there in quite a while. And they have raised their prices once again. I know of no other deli that has prices like Art’s and Art’s is not worth those extra dollars. I had a bacon and cheese omelet and a bagel and a Diet Coke. With tax and tip? $36. I mean, if that’s not outrageous, I don’t know what is. A simple burger at Art’s? $25. A simple turkey sandwich at Art’s? $25. I shall not return. If I ever feel like having their tri-salad, I’ll wait until there’s a 50% off coupon on Uber Eats. Bea-Bea’s for an omelet is ten dollars less all in. Mel’s is less. Hugo’s is less. The Coral Café is less. And there were all of about twelve people having breakfast. Gouge like that, and you lose people. We all know what eggs cost and we all know what a slice of cheese costs and a couple of pieces of bacon. To make that omelet probably costs them all of about $1.50 if that. They are without question the worst offenders in price gouging, and in second place we have The Cheesecake Factory. Outrageous.

I was there about ninety minutes, making notes on the 70, Girls, 70 script. Then I went to the mail place fully expecting my PayPal debit card to be there – my current card is about to expire – but it was not there, nor was anything there. From there, I went to Gelson’s just to kill some time – didn’t really buy anything other than some Milk Duds. Then I came home. Before I put the motor car in the garage, I had to rifle through some boxes to find a couple of things, which I finally did.

Once back in the house, answered e-mails, had a couple of telephonic conversations, I made attempts to watch stuff, at around six I had two tacos from the nearby Mexican jernt I like, I tried to watch more stuff to no avail, and then I did about forty minutes of work on the project with David Wechter. And then, without a warning, it was midnight.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’m told one of my proofers will have his proofed book back to me, so I can enter those fixes and run by Muse Margaret anything I’m not sure of. I’ll do a spot of work on the project with David Wechter, I’ll eat, probably pasta with red sauce or pasta with butter and cheese, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

This week is all entering fixes, a couple of meetings and meals, preparing to cast the musical, hopefully seeing some cover options for the book, and I’ll figure out what are new CD releases will be.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, enter fixes, do some writing on the project, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, finally getting these here post-midnight notes up post-midnight.
