THE DAY OF THE DO/DON’T

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it should be the day of the Do and yet it is not the day of the Do, it is the day on the Don’t. I wish I could tell you I was all better, but I have so much guck in me, still have the remnants of a cough, but the tummy cramp thing went away, so that was a plus. So, what did I do the day before the day of the Do/Don’t? Sleep. Sleep. Seventeen hours of sleep. I’d get up for five minutes, the go back to bed and fall asleep instantly. I finally got out of bed for good at around six-thirty. I decided I should eat since I hadn’t really eaten anything but one cup of oatmeal since Wednesday. I had a sandwich and salad, neither very good. Later, I had another cup of oatmeal. Several nice folks checked up on me. And I actually managed to watch a motion picture, something entitled Company Business, with Gene Hackman and Mikhail Barishnikov. It’s one of those convoluted bad guys in the CIA things – during the writing of it the world was changing by the day so they went into filming without a finished script. And it shows. Nicholas Meyer wrote and directed and even he admits it’s horrible. Apparently, Hackman and he had lots of arguments, and the plot is incomprehensible, filled with flippant Meyer one-liners, and perhaps one of the worst endings ever, in other words, a complete non-ending. It’s too long, too. It was a critical and box-office disaster. And that was it. Sleep, some mediocre food, and a bad movie.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, and I suppose I’ll try to sleep as much as possible. I do have to do a run to the mail place and maybe a smaller market for tuna pasta salad stuff. But maybe not tuna pasta salad. We’ll have to see. I’ll certainly miss doing the Do and having our famous spaghetti and all that. I’ll watch something, maybe listen to some music, eat something light, and then get to bed at midnight.

Tomorrow is Christmas. The Darling Daughter won’t be here (she’ll come in January) and I’ll just be here alone with zero presents to open, which is fine. But I’ll celebrate right here at haineshisway.com and will live vicariously through your tales of what you did, what you ate, and all that stuff. If I’m better by Tuesday, I have an event in the evening – if not, I shan’t go. But I will do work on the new book for sure, and I’ll just pray that I’m completely better by mid-week. Then, on Sunday, it’s our Annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Bash here at haineshisway.com and I hope a lot of you will come safely celebrate in incoming year. We’ll watch the East Coast balls drop, then the West Coast. There’ll be quite a few balls dropping. Then on New Year’s Day, I’ll being a new book and in the afternoon we’ll have a little New Year’s Day Do here.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, sleep as much as possible, do a run to the mail place then maybe to Gelson’s, miss doing the Do, watch something and maybe listen to some music, eat something light, and then get to bed right at midnight. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings and let’s hear what you’ll be doing for Christmas, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, sad that it’s the Day of the Do/Don’t.
