THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, basically a chapter-and-a-half away from finishing a book. I’ve done about thirty pages today, which felt good – I’m sure there’ll be a lot of futzing and finessing. My instinct is to write these here notes, post these here notes and continue writing. I’m not sure how long this next bit will be, but I’d assume ten pages or so and then the wrap up would probably be five to seven pages. I’ve certainly done that before. I’ll definitely write some more but if I don’t finish it this evening, I’ll certainly finish it in the morning, then do a marathon futzing and finessing, then get the final batch of pages to Muse Margaret. So, there won’t be much to write about in these here notes because mostly I’ve been writing constantly from the time I got up until about an hour ago. I only took three breaks today. I did get eight hours of sleep, I did answer e-mails, I did a LOT of futzing and finessing, including moving something I did two hundred pages ago to a place where it made more sense, and I could elaborate on it. I added a few things, smoothed out a lot of stuff, but didn’t really remove anything in total. Then I wrote eight new pages. I went to Gelson’s for an ingredient I needed for my pasta lunch, came home and made the five ounces of fettucine noodles that were left from last week. I did a pink sauce with sauteed red onions. It was excellent but not really enough noodles to satisfy completely. But there was enough sauce left for a little extra pasta later, which is exactly what I did – much later, I made about three ounces of penne pasta and used the rest of the sauce – very good. I just kept writing. When I’m at this point, it’s just what happens. I want to keep going and get the train in the station because I’ve got the fever, I’m in the moment and the mode, and it always feels right. On my breaks, I tried to watch a bit of this or a bit of that, and I did watch some irritating YouTube videos. I also had a forty-five-minute telephonic conversation and that was a nice little break. Now I’m writing these here notes, trying to get my second wind. I think what I’ll do is write another couple of pages then take a nice long hot shower. That’ll refresh me, and then we’ll see how far I get.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll finish the book if I haven’t already, I’ll do a marathon futzing and finessing, I’ll send Muse Margaret the final batch of pages, then I think I’m having an early dinner, a belated birthday dinner over in the Bank of Bur. That’ll be about four-thirty. Then I’ll come home and hope that Muse Margaret calls and hope that she enjoys the rest of the book, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is getting back to the screenplay with David Wechter, printing out the new book for my proofing, some meetings and meals, some merde to deal with, and doing whatever needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, finish the book if I haven’t already, do a marathon futzing and finessing, send Muse Margaret the final batch of pages, have a belated birthday meal, hope for Muse Margaret’s call, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite types of pasta noodles, what are your favorite pasta sauces, and what to you like in your pasta besides sauce? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, so very close that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
