SPRINGING FORWARD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is already that time of year, not that we’re very far into the year or the woods, for that or any other matter. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is that time of the year, the time when we must be springing forward, losing an hour, setting our various and sundried clocks ahead one hour. And so, at two o’clock in the morning it will suddenly be three o’clock in the morning. One hour will simply disappear into the ether until the end of the year, when it will mysteriously make a return appearance. Do not forget to set your various and sundried clocks ahead or you will be behind the eight ball, you will be in a state of flux, you will be in a state of confusion, you will be in a state of disarray. People will frown on you and titter behind your back. Titter, I tell you. So, we MUST all be springing forward or there will be a tremendous tittering to reckon with. Well, I think we’ve exhausted THAT topic, don’t you. I think anyone reading these here notes will be springing forward without a second thought due to the consequences if they don’t. In any case, yesterday, a Friday if ever there was one, was another night of sporadically sporadic sleep. I fell asleep around two-thirty and woke up around six. I couldn’t fall back asleep, so I got up and did some stuff on the computer. I sent an e-mail to my gal at the publishers telling her I was up, and she could call now rather than at eleven. She called me around eight my time and we set all the wheels in motion for them to receive the files. I still haven’t received the fixed design galley yet – not sure why it’s taking this long, as the actual fixes numbered only about fourteen and they were easy. After that, around nine, I did go back to bed and fell asleep. The alarm went off at eleven and I reset it to off again at noon o’clock. After that, I got up again, answered e-mails, and then the food I’d ordered in advance arrived – Kung Pao chicken and fried rice. The latter was supposed to be pork fried rice but wasn’t – it was chicken fried rice. I ate half the Kung Pao chicken and just a bit of the fried rice, then five hours later I polished off the Kung Pao and had another helping of fried rice. There’s still over half a container of fried rice left. I got the dust jacket and softcover files and made a nice folder for them, so all we’re waiting on is the final designed book. I’m hoping all that can get sent in by Monday morning. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish, and watched another Shower of Stars with Jack Benny as host and Gale Storm as guest. She sure was perky, that Gale Storm. I had a little boy crush on her because I watched My Little Margie every day. I nodded off for a bit, watched some irritating videos on YouTube, and had a very long telephonic conversation. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven or thereabouts, and a pianist is coming at one to show me his pianistics. After that, I’ll either go out and get food to bring back or I’ll order something online. I’ve used all my 50% off things, so it’s back to DoorDash. I’ll do some writing, I’ll hopefully get the latest designed book and if so, I’ll check just the fixes and the page layouts and if all is well, then that’s what gets sent to the publisher. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, when I arise it will be an hour later and won’t that be fun. I believe the Academy Awards are on, but in order for me to see them I’d have to find some free trial thing – we’ll see if I even want to bother. But we will, of course, have our Annual Oscar Bash right here at haineshisway.com and I’ll look forward to fashion reports and hearing who won what, and how the whole affair went. Monday, I’m hoping to get the book in and then I can seriously get back to the project with David Wechter. I also have some meetings and meals to attend to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven or thereabouts, have a meeting with a pianist, eat, write, hopefully get the final designed book and hopefully everything will be right, and I can approve it, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Who are your favorite stage, film, and TV detectives? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, ready to be springing forward at two in the morning.
