THE NTH, THE ETH, AND THE OSCARS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish as the midnight hour approacheth. That was quite Shakespearean, wasn’t it? Amazing what a little “eth” can do to maketh thingseth Shakespeareaneth. A Little Eth – that’s the title of my next novel. Anyway, I had another night of three or four hours of sleep. You see, dear reader George forced me to order a burrito from the Bell of Taco at one in the morning. He forced me, I tell you. And then what are you gonna do? You HAVE to eat the damn thing and if there’s one thing you should NOT eat at one in the morning it’s a chicken enchilada burrito – I gather it’s a new item and I did enjoy it up until I went to bed at three, at which point I realized it was going to sit in my stomach like so much fish and cause me discomfort. I hate when that happens. What nerve. I did sit on my couch like so much fish at around seven last evening and even as I was scrolling through Prime to see if there was something I wanted to watch, I nodded off before a single scroll. Out like a light for about an hour or so. Once I awoke, I scrolled but found nothing I felt like watching, so I went to YouTube to see if there was anything interesting, but there wasn’t – just the same old same old. Then I had a nice telephonic conversation, and then it was time to write these here notes, which is what I’m doing, in case you haven’t noticed. Earlier, I was up several times but the enchilada burrito refused to digest properly. I fell asleep finally but was awakened by the ringing of the telephone – a spam call if ever there was one. I got out of bed at eleven, answered e-mails, and then a pianist dropped by and we spent a couple of hours yakking and then playing through some music. He’s very good and I do believe that if the Kritzerland shows come back, he’ll join our merry troupe. I was hungry at that point (3:30) but I couldn’t get what I wanted until 5:30, so I had a nice telephonic conversation with dear reader Jeanne. After that, food finally arrived at 5:35 – a chicken salad sandwich and tiny Caesar – both excellent, from the Cheesecake Factory. I ate the sandwich – I’ve had it before, but this time it was just a bit too mayonnaisey and now I know to tell them to not go nuts with the damn mayo. It was still good, though, as was the tiny Caesar. That was it for food. I really couldn’t focus enough to write anything and I heard nothing about when the final design galley will get to me. It really should not take this long to enter the corrections I had, which were simple as pie and quite easy to implement. What may be taking a little time is turning the color photo spread into black and white. I’ll try to be patient, he said, wryly and with some amusement. I am by nature an impatient person to the nth degree. Is nth like eth? And have you noticed, I just dropped the Shakespearean aspect of the notes? I left it by the wayside, wherever that is. Where is the damn wayside? I haven’t seen the wayside in way ages. Anywayeth, let us carryeth on.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up and when I’m up when I’m up the clocks will have moved ahead one hour. I’ll reset the microwave and oven clocks and then I’ll reset the clock in the car if I can remember how. Of course, this is Oscar Bash Day and it looks like I won’t be watching unless I can figure out some way to do so by taking a free trial on some service. I’ll attend to that as soon as I’m up. If I can’t watch, then we’ll need a running commentary about everything that happens. Not sure what I’ll do about food, other than eat it. I may go to Gelson’s, but I fear that everyone will be getting stuff to watch the Oscars with. I’m really not in the mood to DoorDash – so maybe I’ll just get one chicken breast and make faux chicken stroganoff, since I have all the other ingredients. Or maybe I’ll make tuna sandwiches, which is even easier. Then I’ll either watch or hear the Oscars via postings on this here site.

Tomorrow, I was hoping to turn in the book files but I’m not sure that can happen unless I get the galley today or early Monday. Otherwise, I’ll be writing most of the day and evening and praying for a modern major miracle or two. The rest of the week is more of that, Wednesday is the rescheduled dinner with the Pearls, so that will be fun, then there are a couple of other meetings and meals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, reset two clocks and the car clock, maybe do a Gelson’s run for food, eat, and then either watch or listen via postings to the Oscars. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have written some nth and eth jottings and looking forward to our annual Oscar Bash.
