THE GETAWAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, having had a nice day trip to Laguna to play and see Alby Potts, who’s there doing the Pageant of the Masters. We’re discussing various and sundried things and since it’s only a less than an hour drive, I thought it would be fun to have a day away and it was. I had my first or second meal at Olive Garden – a strange place that was packed with people, but I enjoyed what I ate, a salad with ranch and chicken and shrimp carbonara – very good and very filling and I couldn’t quite finish it. Fun chatting with Alby on many topics and catching up. I also visited several art galleries and shops, and that was fun. I walked quite a bit, checked out the beach, and it was a nice and enjoyable diversion. Obviously, I watched no motion pictures and listened to no music. The art was interesting. A gallery that sells only artwork by an artist named Vladimir Kush, kind of hyper realism mixed with surrealism, rather like my life – a modern day Dali, kinda sorta. Another gallery had some really nice paintings by a French artist – I was astonished at the asking prices, frankly. VERY expensive. Lots of interesting restaurants, including a hot dog jernt I would have tried had I not been so damn full from the chicken and shrimp carbonara. Not much else to talk about, other than that I hadn’t seen an actual in person ocean in many, many years. The one and only other time I’ve been in Laguna was to see a singer I knew do the Pageant of the Masters. That must have been around 2002. It’s a pleasant place but very crowded. What else can I tell you? Not much. Oh, I could tell you the story of The Randy Vicar and the Donut Hole – that one’s a corker. Or I could sing a few songs from Whoop-Up, but you wouldn’t be able to hear me. I could tell you that I wore a pair of new socks and they’re very nice. I seem to be vamping here. Not like Theda Bara, but like a band vamping until ready. Apparently, I’m not ready for the next paragraph and this paragraph seems to be going on and on and on with no end in sight, phantasmagoria of words with no real point and yet on and on it goes, like 99 Barrels of Beer on the Wall. Well, let’s just call it a day and move on to the next paragraph.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll eat something fun at some point, organize some stuff, start to do a show order although I still don’t know what two people are singing, and then at some point, I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, doing the show order, writing the commentary, picking up a couple of packages at the mail place, some meetings and meals, and then doing whatever else needs doing.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the Monkey, for today is the birthday of our very own Jrand. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own Jrand. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN JRAND!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, organize, start a show order, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What getaway places that aren’t too far from you do you enjoy going to? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a nice getaway.
